ya, i went there last year sometime. i think it was over thanksgiving holiday. i went specifically to that place from vegas to take photos. for me it was cold as fuck. there was no snow, but shit, i have on seven layers including one of those mexican sweaters, thermals and a light ski jacket. for my legs i had thermals and military pants. the cold, dry air ate right into my bones even though it was only about 40f out. the thin air at 9000 feet i believe led me to not get enough oxygen to produce heat.

even though i was cold the wood houses were warm, almost hot on the surface from the sun if you can believe that.

there is a lot of shit laying around for photos.

i spent all day there wandering around. saw a couple who had a pet wolf. that was cool... looking into the wolfs eyes... seeing the intelligence. neat.

anyway, get a hotel at bridgeport so you can eat at Michael's. I had the best steak of my life there. seriously. that place get's booked up during the holidays from people coming from reno or LA to eat there and enjoy the outdoors.

it's very quiet and very serene up there in the eastern sierra.

before i went to mono lake which begs for sunrise photos. (before that lee vinning which has some neat geothermal vents)

after drove to yosemite park and omg is that place amazing. i have never seen a place so beautiful (and crowded). it is as incredible as every book i read said.

then i drove home.

think about that

Years ago, I took a photography workshop at Bodie. The leader has a special permit to enter the buildings prior to park opening. I've been inside the general store, the mill, one of the bars, the mortuary, among others. The still lifes are incredible there. You can see what it's like at http://www.globalpreservationproject...odieIndex.html

I've been through there. It was amusing in a 'ghost town park' sort of way.

By this, I'm suggesting mood altering drugs. It's relaxing, but boring as hell.
