![]() It seems the browsers are moving towards 'private browsing' features that clear cookies... what happens now? unless the affiliate's surfer impulse buys right away, the affiliate is screwed?
if i recall right, most software tracks by other means like IP etc too.. but that surely isn't accurate... So what now? Is this significant enough where affprogs will have to signficantly raise their payouts to appease affiliates? Maybe start crediting for upsells inside members areas, xsells etc? Are affiliates just screwed in the end?

there are more ways to track than cookies, although im not an expert on the subject
some software also matches by IP address, and i know pixel tracking popular in mainstream, and im sure there are others. these things affect huge companies like amazon as well and you know they wont stand for it

Well depend if it will be default feature of browser then yes.If not, then not.But again i think people wont need especialy if you visit daily things like forums which require cookie to stay login all the time.

Yeah, really. Normal people who aren't doing things they aren't supposed to be doing won't want to use this setting as you'd have to re-enter all your username/passwords for everything every time you logged on. I'm actually surprised they would promote this as a positive. I know foxfire already has the ability but you have to manually do it but really, this seems to cater to those looking up illegal things.

True but can't people do this already? Clear cookies, cache, etc?

Have you browsed around with Firefox and the AdBlock Plus with the easylist subscription by default when it gets installed?
Blocks all kinds of ads. I never see Google Adsense anywhere for example. It blocks ads using keywords in the filenames or urls like banner, ads. Pretty aggressive. Check them out here: http://easylist.adblockplus.org/adblock_rick752.txt

A lot of the optimism in this thread is pointed towards the "oh people simply won't use it" train of thought. Hell, there was a full page article in the Edmonton Sun the other day with the big text headline "Call it... Porn mode" which they highly praised the new privacy features, encouraged their use, and even went on to explain how you can clear your porn surfing tracks with their use. How many people read the Sun? A LOT. I don't doubt that similar articles are being ran in other papers, magazines, newsletters, blogs, and websites. A good number of porn surfers I'm sure saw that headline and read the article. A couple clicks to cover their tracks, I'm sure plenty will at least consider it.
