Interesting story about a luxury fishing yacht in Mexican waters...

I came across this story and part of it caught my attention...

Full story: http://www.thelog.com/news/logNewsAr...=4&b=14&x=8444

"ENSENADA, MEXICO -- A private luxury sportfishing yacht has been taken over by the boat?s captain and crew at its berth in an Ensenada-area marina for alleged non-payment of bills, according to reports published in the Ensenada newspaper El Vigía.

The 65-foot Viking On the Edge has been involved in a standoff since arriving in Ensenada in late September, after the boat?s captain and one or more crewmen allegedly commandeered the vessel at the dock for alleged unpaid fuel bills in Bahia Tortuga (Turtle Bay), back pay and severance allegedly owed the captain and crew -- and unpaid medical expenses relating to a severe foot injury reportedly incurred by the boat?s cook.

...

When On the Edge arrived in Turtle Bay, the yacht was out of fuel, out of food and out of money, Hernandez claims. He and his crew were forced to do mechanical work on other yachts in the area just to have money to pay for groceries while they waited for a wire transfer.

...

The yacht?s co-owner and captain have apparently been at loggerheads for quite some time. On Sept. 15, Hernandez sent a five-page, single-spaced letter to On the Edge co-owner Ron Cadwell, lambasting Pfeiffer for numerous he issues had regarding the vessel."

yes, this has been ongoing, but the story i heard is that the crew was chartering the boat out without owners permission and when owners tried to fire the crew, they said they wanted money or they were not giving the boat back..

At least one lesson here is not to keep your boat in Mexican ports...

I would venture to guess that after they work through this and put a new crew onboard that it will end up docked in a civilized place like St Barths, St Maartin or the Bahamas.

Good luck, Ron!

Some People don't take well to being fired when caught stealing. Boat is back in American waters untouched.

Glad to hear you that you got the boat to a safe place

I've seen with my brothers various yachts and crews over the years with the same ongoing issues of theft, substance abuse, the whole 9 yards. Its always a challenge to find zen with staffing. If you are in the market for a new broker who could also assist with placing better staff, you should reach out to Stev e Doy le at North rop and Jo hnson and drop our name.

Best of luck!

I honestly don't. I'm just thinking that depending on what flag the boat is flying and country paychecks come from that it might be unwise to call any port home where yacht employees could lodge a local labor dispute and cause this type of headache. I'm glad Ron's got his boat back from the thieves holding it hostage and am sure he has already figured out everything to be learned from the experience.
