Been driving for 12 yrs and still cant parallel park - GoFuckYourself.com

When I took my drivers test when I was 18 I never had to parallel park in a NARROW space. The instructor told me to parallel park against a curb but there was no other cars around so it wasn't hard to do... I never learned how to parallel park in a NARROW spot with a car in front and behind me...

I don't live in a really busy/crowded city where you are forced to parallel park. Where I live its more suburban so I've always gotten away with parking "into the parking space" with two other cars on my SIDE and what I've been doing is when I have to parallel park in a narrow space is I just DON'T, I drive further and look for a spot where I can park IN or park normally without having to parallel park....

If the space is really narrow I either get the front part of the car sticking out or the bottom part but I can not get the whole car in...

In case you're laughing, it's not funny. No one ever taught me how to parallel park so that's why I don't know. How are you supposed to know if no one ever taught you? My driving instructor never taught me and I was never required to do it on the test and all these years I have gotten away buy just driving further to find a space where I don't have to parallel even if that means having to walk further...

Does anyone have tips?

Oh and I CAN parallel park if there is a BIG SPACE, I ONLY have problems when its a narrow space. I DO know how to parallel park if the space is wide open.

yeah, as george costanza said, you must back in

drive fairly close to the cars on your side and drive up to alongside the car that is in front

put it in reverse

back up and cut the wheel to get the back end going in

at a certain point cut the wheel the other way to bring the front of your vehicle in

straighten out a little and pull forward into the final spot

It's easier doing that when there is someone to spot you, otherwise I always feel like I am going to hit the parked car behind me.

I lived in NYC , so when it was time to get ready for my test. My Dad had me practice in front the house til I got perfect. So it was no problem for me. The greatest parallel parking I ever saw was when I worked for rolls royce/jaguar as a service advisor. This limo driver came with a stretch rr limo he just needed to pick something up inside. He parallel parked that boat like it was a vw rabbit. lol

do this and if you're in a truck or something OFF the ground simply back up till your tire starts going up the curb ;) always love seeing trucks halfway up the sidewalk...

I saw a chick fail at pulling into the kerb (with no other cars around) on Saturday. She scraped the side of her wheel, turned out again, nudged it again, scrrrappppeee, more nudging back and forth. This was all within a few seconds as she was braking to a stop...

Then I saw that her front number plate was bashed in. Looks like she hit someone's towbar.

I learned how to PP when I was 16 and failed the first test. My mother had a brand new 1978 Buick Estate wagon which is the size of some NYC apartments. http://www.cars-on-line.com/27870.html We went to the Winn Dixie up the road, put up grocery carts and I sat there for HOURS PPing. I can PP anything now and always grab the PP places that everyone else avoids

I learned by my dad putting two folding chairs at the curb and making the space more and more narrow until I could park with ease. I nailed it on my drivers test but honestly I so rarely have to do it now that I am sure I would have a problem if the need arose.

Oh and to all the women drivers suck comments, I would love to compare driving records with you! LOL

You got that right, the drive home from Atlanta was soooo bad. I would flash my lights and if a man was driving boom he would move over, if a woman was driving she would drive slower

If I'm in the left lane then it's because everyone in the right lanes is going slower. Just because you want to get past me I'm NOT going to slow down and change lanes so you can. When I get past someone on the right, then I'll move over. But if one of us has to slow down and I'm in front, it's going to be you.
