What type of internet speed should I be getting with Bellsouth DSL 6.0?

Running the closest testing location at http://www.speedtest.net and I am doing 1835kb/s download and 195 kb/s upload. Aren't I supposed to be around 5000-6000 kb/s? I've seen people post their 23000+ kb/s and shit I just don't get it...

Bellsouth/ATT advertise it as 6.0mb/s, so shouldn't I be bitching about this lowsy speed?

I have Roadrunner "turbo" for residential... This is what I got

I guess you can try the tweaks they have at dslreports.com to improve your speed.

Login to your modem and see what the downstream/upstream sync rate is set to. Check the noise margins too. Under 10db isn't so hot. You may be too far away from the central office to get full sync. Has it always been that slow or just recently? Are you plugged directly into the modem or do you have a router between your pc and the modem? If router, bypass that and plug your computer directly into the modem and see if you still get the same speeds.

I contacted bellsouth, and they had a tech come to my house, and they configured the noise reduction inorder to get close to 7,000. If you recently upgraded, you are probably still set at the lower kbs rate, noise reduction setting.

I have Bellsouth (now AT&T) DSL Extreme and I don't get anything close to what I am supposed to get for download or upload speeds. Plus they are now censoring my emails on top of it, assholes.

Yah at my new place in GA i was stuck with getting dsl. I'm getting like 5500KB down and 435KB up.

The ATT guys were impressed since I am in the middle of a 600 acre farm.

I miss my roadrunner in florida, i was getting 24MB down and 2MB up.

The guys did say that they will be bumping it up soon with some new technology coming out that they do on their end. (no new cables needed)

He also said that they will be able to bring in tv as well on the same line.

Cable company here supplies 20mb/2mb cable but those types of lines need a power booster every so many thousand feet and their main cable line is much thicker.

Where the dsl is a little more forgiving on needing a power booster.

What's funny is here in GA when I use my sprint cell phone as a modem I can dam near beat att's dsl speeds. I used it for 2 weeks before my dsl was hooked up and was quite impressed. (only 1 and 2 bars signal strength) at max bars I bet it would beat ATT's extreme dsl.

Well fuck, it's like an illusion seeing all these crazy speeds everyone else is on, I simply don't believe it because I've been on this Bellsouth 6.0 for a few years now and never tested over like 1800kb/s, I'm definitely going to be making a call to them about this because I am living in downtown Orlando now and it should not be this fucking slow..

How the hell did you do this? I too went without internet for a few weeks before they got their head outta their ass and switched my DSL account to my new address, so in the meantime I was doing whatever I could online on my iPhone...

unplug the dsl modem wait a few seconds and then reconnect. your speed should be back to normal around 5.6 or so. happens to me a lot too, so every few days i'll just disconnect and reconnect before starting work each morning.

I usually hit 30k down, tad slow today. Comcast cable, you will never attain these numbers with dsl sorry.

well with 6 Mbps you should get getting DUH 6 Mbps. Actually depends on how far you live from the CO. But if you are too far get even 3.1 Mbps they are only supposed to charge you for the 3 Mbps tier price. Oh and it's at&t. Bellsouth merged with at&t nearly 2 years ago.

i have a sprint touch phone, for 15 dollars extra a month you can get "unlimited modem access" is what they call it. (it's not included in the unlimited internet access you use with the phones browser)

the phone comes with a usb cable that connects to your pc or if your pc has blue tooth you can go thru it
