Didn't it just come out a month ago? Why did you replace it so quick with a D700?

I have a D-90.

It's much beefier than the D-80. It feels heavier. I like everything about it ('cept video) as I'm a Nikon fan, and have been using Nikon since I got an F3.

It seems faster to me, but it could be because of the new glass I got with it.

I'm NOT fond of the video at all.. at least not yet. I haven't looked into it enoughy to see if you can change the F/stops manually in video mode. So far it's been rolling thru 'iris' settings in video mode and oddly enough I get image warp. It's hard to explain, but if you move to quick.. and by to quick, I mean.. just barely... you get like an image distortion. It's subtle, but I notice it, and it makes me cringe.

So far I can't see a practical use for the video. At least not for porn. I got a few 6 gig cards with mine, and when you go into live mode the video counter reads 5 minutes. It did the same thing when I put a 4 gig card in. It seems you're limited to 5 minutes. Also focusing seems slow in video mode. The DOF is amazing in video mode, but the rack focus in between points is way to slow.

I know when I was shooting on a small sony I could shoot 23 minutes of HD on a 2 gig card.

I seem to have a little bit of free time this evening, so maybe I'll pull out the manual and see if there are any ways to adjust settings while in video mode, but off hand there was nothing that jumped right out at you like all the other settings do.

I just read the manual regarding movie mode, and yeah I was right. You can't set an 'iris' or 'f/stop' while in movie mode, it uses matrix metering and will auto adjust your video. The only movie settings you can choose are basically frame size which in turn is also file size, and movie length. It will only record for 5 minutes because the 'internal circuitry' will overheat and malfunction. It absolutely did say in the manual that if you use fluorescents (as kino's are) that you will get image distortion. It also said do not point it at the sun.

As far as Digital cameras goes, it's a good 35mm DSLR for me. Like I said it feels more durable to me than the D-80, and has a lot more features that I have yet to explore. But the video feature is FAR TOO WEAK to be of any use in the industry. It's barely good enough to film the family. At 5 minutes, it'd be good for I dunno maybe filming a guy getting hit in the nuts with a coconut, or filming my cousin Ronnie doing donuts in his beatup Datsun at his farm for shitty youtube videos... but that's about it.

In hindsight, buying a new camera for the feel does seem ridiculous. It's pretty much a D-80 with video features. I shoot in manual anyway so I rarely use any of the 'bells and whistles' I know the D-90 has some kind of wicked color settings that uses a color chart, but I never color correct in camera anyway, so I might not ever use that feature. Sitting here... writing this... I realize, I should have kept the D-80 and invested in a bigger body Nikon like a D3.

Well.. SHIT!

Anyone wanna buy a barely used D-90?

I borrowed a D700 from a friend for 2 days and fell in love with it...

I am also thinking of upgrading my Canon 5D Mark II to a Canon EOS 1D (left pic) :
