my 57" TV is fucked up. What would be a good replacement

I have a 57" big ass projection TV (widescreen HD). I bought it, hmmmm, I think 7 years ago. It seems like the first generation of LCDs were out. They were overpriced and the picture quality was worse but lovers of new technology didn't seem to notice. I love what technology can do for me, I do not love technology for the sake of loving technology. From what I can tell LCDs and Plasmas definitely do look better now. My only concern is size. The 46" ones look great. 50"-52" is questionable. Could a 57" look better than what I've got? If not I'll just get this one fixed.

Larger Plasma TVs look better than larger LCD TVs, perform way better, last longer, and cost less to operate.

Get another 57 of the same brand.

Put the old one in the new box.

Tell your neighbor your back went out and have him take it back for you.

Don't actually do it unless you know a homeless person willing to take the risk.

LoL..

my daughter-in-law did this with a faulty baby swing. Motor went weird on it after just a month or so. She went to the same store.. bought the same swing, unpacked just the motor part.. put the old one back in the box and took it back to the store and told them it didn't work.

I prefer LCD over Plasma and like Nick says Samsung=Perfect

I know earlier this year, I went shopping for a tv and I noticed that in the stores, LCDs seemed much brighter and crisper than Plasma. I ended up buying a beautiful 52" Samsung LED LCD tv and I love it.

I guess it's all about preference. You should go out to a couple of stores and look at the picture qualities between LCD and Plasma and see which type of picture you like best.

When you go to a store like Best Buy and just compare TVs by standing there looking at them the only safe comparison is how the TV looks on it's outside and not the picture quality.

There is no telling how each TVs settings have been set and it's possible that someone has bumped up the brightness or contrast on some of the sets or turned it down. A customer may have got his hand on the remote and played with the settings.

The best way to pick a TV is research it thoroughly online and then check it out in person.
To go into a store and blindly look side by side can be very misleading

I love Samsung widescreens.. I had a 50" DLP, then when I came here I got a 50" LCD. Next is a larger plasma. The only thing I don't like is the sound - it's just a little weak. Hook up a decent audio system and you are golden...

I've heard that Best Buy is having some killer deals. Either going out of business or desperately trying to hang in there

If money is a non issue.
The Pioneer Elites are the ABSOLUTE BEST.
I have a samsung 51 plasma in the bedroom... it's good, but not near the pioneer that my MIL has in her bedroom.

THen we have the 61 inch DLP Samsung in the living room... and its picture full on front is better or as good as the plasma..

But if money is a non issue.. Pioneer Elite or Sony XBR is the way to go.
Both are AMAZING while Samsung is just good.

ANd if you want to buy American.. get a Vizio from COSTCO not from WalMart.

I'm going to run into this problem when my 5-6 year old 65" widescreen projection dies. The only thing that comes close for a decent price is a DLP and I'm not touching that.

I see your point, HOWEVER, maybe I should've been a little more clear with my words. I meant to check out the store to see the difference between LCD and Plasma pictures. I've went to a couple of stores and got the same impression, the LCDs seemed brighter and had better crispness than the plasmas, maybe that's just my eyes though.

You're right about doing research online. I did a LOT of research online and then bought it online which saved me quite a bit.

I disagree with you on just about all of your points except I'm not sure on the operational cost aspect, which has to be a very minimal difference. I've got 2 largescreen lcds and 2 plasmas in my house, the 2 lcds perform better than the plasmas. The picture on my Sony Bravia lcd is incredible, only set I'd consider buying now other than that is the Pioneer Elite.
