My New Mac Pro Is A Work Of Art!

I don't have a lot of experience with Macs....in fact, I have none. But that didn't stop me from buying one. For years my friends who are in the business of creating things have told me that the Mac was where it was at - today, I believe them.

My Mac Pro is a work of art. From the packaging... to the design of the actual computer. Even though I've never touched a Mac before, I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 16GB and added two more 1TB hard drives and it took less than 5 minutes. No wires, no errors, no stress...no shit. I turned the computer on and it instantly found all my RAM and my hard drives. I formatted the drives and they both show up on the desktop ready to rock.

When Mac designed this computer, they had people like me in mind. People who would rather spend their time creating things...rather than trying to figure out why things arn't working right. I know that the Mac is not trouble free, but my experience so far is that Mac makes it easy to get things done.

Next....I'm about to install the Final Cut Pro 2 Suite

I have a 17" powerbook g4 and a G5 tower. I love my Macs. I have not used a windows machine at home in over a year. Next step is to replace the powerbook with the new 15" Macbook Pro

I use to hate Mac... but once I got use to it and realized how much more stable it is then windows, I will never go back. Especially after I used a Vista machine and I had to reboot 6 times in 2 hours because it kept crashing.

I have a desktop at home with XP that I let people use when they come over so they don't mess with my Macs, other then that I don't touch it

Just to be fair to PC, I run Vista and have never had a problem. However... I'm running it on a mac.

I've switched to Ubuntu and still use XP for the odd task. Love the new Macs but the prices are a little steep for me to switch over all the machines I use to them

Long as I don't have to use Vista it's all good.

I have a 24 inch iMac that i want to eventually get rid of and buy a Macpro to replace it and my desktop PC. The OS is so much more stable than windows.

To be fair though, you can install extra ram and HD's in windows and it will find them on it's own as well. You just can't install 16 gigs of ram in most PC's much less 32 gigs that you can put in a MacPro to max it out.

Fuck Vista... I refuse to load that POS on any of my machines. I had to use someone's Vista machine one day to get some work done. The program I was using crashed I don't know how many times and I had to reboot 6 times. It was slow as hell and to be honest hurt my feelings knowing I could have done the same thing on my Mac in 1/4 of the time and it was not a low end machine.. it was a pretty pimped out computer that should have ran Vista and the program I was using with no problems.

With that said my lineup at home is....

17" Powerbook G4 - OSX

15" Dell laptop - Windows XP (have not used it in over a year)

PowerMac G5 - OSX

Generic desktop - Ubuntu / XP dual boot (only around to play with Linux)

Compaq desktop - XP (for friends to use)

Say no to Vista

Is it because Windows will only ever see 2 gigs of ram at the most?

I started using a Macbook Pro about 6 months ago. Still trying to get used to some things but it was fun to learn something new. Still a ways to go to know a lot about the OS etc. I hardly do anything with terminal.

I just bought my first MAC, and I've been wet ever since! Very few times has anything that I have personally bought EVER met with expectations...My MACBook laptop crushed all the expectations I had...I will never use a PC again if I can help it. Great purchase, Dean! Enjoy!!!xxx

I did the same recently, but added 3tb of extra storage and it took me no time. I just installed Final Cut Studio 2 a few days ago, and my only bit of advice would be to not load the content with it. Do that as you need it, because that part takes a while.

Dean, I am happy you see the philosophy difference between Apple and PC Makers and Windows. I have been trying to get people to understand its not about the tech specs, the cost, etc. Its about its easy and smarter so you can just work/create. On windows you have to babysit your computer because of all the issues, on OSX you don't. Dean I am sure you will find that the software is much more intuitive and elegant. I edit using FCS Studio 2 and you will be amazed just how nicely all the apps integrate and work well together.

Congrats and welcome to the Mac community. If you need some "must have" software recommendations, just hit me up.

Vista works ok for me but its so fucking slow and my machine is top of the line just 8 months ago. They also capped the ram usage of vista at 4gb in 32bit machines, idiots!

Its pretty telling what Microsoft is admitting about Vista when they are saying Windows 7 will be released by the end of 2009. Personally for me it has been ok. Its pretty, but not much more than XP with a facelift and more bloat.

Like any marriage, it's always sweet in the beginning. It's a machine like any other, designed by humans, prone to the same faults that plague us. But sounds like you bought into the marketing..

I edit using FCS Studio 2 and you will be amazed just how nicely all the apps integrate and work well together.

Congrats and welcome to the Mac community. If you need some "must have" software recommendations, just hit me up.
Unfortunately, and through no fault of Apple, once you realize you have to make your web sites compatible to IE and Mac offers no smooth and easy way to do that, things become a bit more of a pain..
