A promising trend during recessions ...

Did you know that during recessions that box office sales go up? That's right. In fact, for November, box office sales were up 15% over the same period the year before. People might not be able to afford new cars or fancy vacations, but it seems the price of a movie ticket is still considered good value $30 for two at the movies is a pretty cheap night out.

Don't you think that's good news for porn membership sales? After all, ~$30 for 30 full days is a pretty damned good deal when broken down in to hours of entertainment per dollar spent.

Good value is buying the dvd for $14.99 at Target or Walmart. Then watching it with the whole family.

Less then $20 with popcorn and cokes. Plus if it's good you can re-watch it.

But that means staying home.. A lot of people just need to get out the house for a few hours. I know I do at times and I go to the cinema or to the pub with some friends.

You've totally missed the point. The point is not what do you find to be a better value. The point is that people spend MORE money at the movie theatre during a recession. I'm arguing that translates, at least in some part, to Adult sales too.

The most recession-proof business in the world is the sex trade, ie; prostitution.

Anyone care to guess what the second most recession-proof biz is?

Entertainment is big during economic downturns. People might not be able to make mortgage payments, but they're willing to shell out however much to lift their spirits.

Yes you are right. Nightclubs do more business, strip clubs, movies, porn...all forms of adult entertainment always kick ass during recessions. People look for escapism.

I can give you a pretty good example: I just moved to Vegas at the beginning of Oct., before that I lived in S.C.

And my band played the little crappy clubs in that area. And I got to know a lot broke ass redneck fucks. lol

Those people lived in tiny trailers and half the time were out of work. Most of 'em had a couple of kids and they drove cars that were held together by the rust holding hands.

Yet somehow, someway...they ALWAYS had a bag of pot, a refrigerator full of beer, a carton of smokes, and would be out drinking at clubs.

So even when people have hard times, they will still find a way to do the things that make life worth living to them. The little things that they enjoy.

But adult entertainment is right up there. There was porn even in the 1920's and 30's through the great depression.

Huge. Absolutely. I don't know if it's #2 but then again it does go hand in hand with the funeral trade.

I read electronics stores and cable/home entertainment companies traditionally do well in recessions.

Just about every few months for like 20 years the Movie Industry has grown, posted some new record movie, broke some old record, make some multi millions of dollars on crap.

Recessions... Pfft.. It has never stopped with them, that industry is always posting record numbers and in the same breath bitch that sales are down, piracy is killing them, this type of media hurts, blah blah blah... 20 years of the same blah blah blah.

And in my opinion the cost of Movies at the theater are way to damn expensive along with everything else at the theater. For sure when they are posting super record multi million dollar profits on total trash movies.
