Had prolotherapy on my shoulder today (20 injections)

So far it is just tight, a little sore...

If you don't know what prolotherapy is, it is a non-surgical (non pharmaceutical) way to heal / strengthen weak ligaments, tendons & cartilage (related to injury or degeneration with age).

Basically it consists of multiple injections of a natural solution (typically dextrose/water) into the injured area, causing isolated injury. This forces your body to respond with the standard cascading healing process - creating more collagen, etc that will tighten up and strengthen the tissue.

It has an 85% success rate after a few treatments. Should be considered before surgery unless you have a complete tear - not many traditional doctors practice this.

I had shoulder problems after injuring it doing some overhead dumbbell presses at the gym 3 years ago, ever since then it hasn't been the same. It was weak, it would act up if I leaned on it or used it too much - I can't even sit in a chair with arm rests for more than 20 minutes with it aching.

I've done xrays, mris (found nothing - got the standard diagnosis of an impingement), anti inflammatory meds & had physical therapy - nothing really made the pain go away.

This should do the trick for me.

Here is some feedback from a guy I know that had it done for him & said it saved his ass as well:

I consider myself a "pro" at prolotherapy. I have gotten just about every major joint repaired from it. I can tell you with 100% confidence that it is better to wait ATLEAST 6 weeks to go back for another session. In my honest opinion, if you are not experiencing sharp, intense pains, i would say it would be best to go in for a session (get aggressive prolotherapy - lots of shots, and very strong solution) then wait about 8-10 weeks before going back. Just remember to not put too much undue stress on the shoulder (dont be stupid with it and try to lift heavy stuff in awkward motions) and try to do regular exercise with it (controlled movements).

My shoulder was the worst of the joints. Just before i started prolotherapy, i could barely lift my right arm to put deodorant on. I had sharp pains in it, like the rotator cuff was tearing when i lifted with it Now, i can do anything with it, with no pain. I just have to make sure that i keep exercising with it, and stretching it after i lift. If i go a long period without exercising the shoulder, i start getting dull aches in it, but this pain goes right away after i warm up, and it never interferes with anything in my daily routine. It is just an ache, and i can totally live with it.

Like i said, my shoulder was the worst joint. I had about 60% improvement after just the first session. But i was STUPID, and started lifting heavy with it, and screwed it up badly again. It took a long time for it to heal up again. But if i didnt get the prolo, i would not have use of my right shoulder at all right now.

And just to show how good this stuff is, i had horrible lower back issues, right in the sacriolic area. I was a powerlifter and did alot of deadlifts and such. I burned my lower back out doing them for several years. Pain got to the point where it was hard to stand up straight for periods of time. Sometimes i would go several days, sometimes weeks hunched over a bit. I got ONE session, and everything was gone completely. I got another session just to make sure i never had problems again. And yes, i have never ever had a problem with my back since. I also partially tore a flexor tendon in my wrist. It was in a weird location and it hurt for me to lift anything in a curl motion. I actually couldnt lift a dumbell over 15lbs without sharp pain in my wrist. I went 3 years with that pain. It took 5 sessions of prolo on the wrist, but the pain is 100% gone! The prolo is also a 100% cure for cracking and popping joints. I couldnt tell you how often or how loud my ankles used to crack. One session and 90% of the cracking is gone. I'm going in to get them done again in a week to get rid of it completely.
