:stop Long Time directNIC user seeks new register. Who's do you keep your domains with?

I've used directnic since the 90's. I love their style and all that good shit but I own alot more domains now then I did then, and at $15 each domain per year i'm paying a lot for that style.
So I need a new registar. They have to let me join free, transfer my domains free, and have reasonable pricing on new domains.

I dont care if they carry free hosting or pop 3 crap, I'm a big boy and dont need that, just a cheaper, well respected registar.

Thanks ahead of time.

Hey man.

What do you mean by transfer my domains free?

As from what i have found so far, with being used many registrars. They all require you transfer / renew
your domains for a minimum 1 year just to get them in to their system.

There is always resellerclub, godaddy, moniker, namecheap etc.

Good luck to you jmcb420.

I mean they have to let me transfer my domains from directnic to them for free. I've never used another registar, so I dont know if charging for transfers is customary or what. I do know that I own enough domains that I wont consider a company who is going to charge my eyes out just to transfer all of them, I'm doing this because I want to save a little cash on domains this coming year.

From my personal experience, i have yet to be able to transfer my domains from registrar to registrar
without paying a trasnfer / renewal fee.

I have a few hundred domains and i know what you mean, its quite a large sum of change when
wanting to do this in one shot.

If you do find one that will allow this, then please do let me know also.

I will do likewise for you.

Sorry, i forgot to add that most will give you better rates than listed on their pages
when you let them know of how many domains your portfolio consists of and how
often / many domains you are likeley to be registering with them on a constant basis.

you cant transfer for free
you'll have to pay one year renewal fee, which adds one more year to the life of your domain name. Nothing wrong with that, consider it like renewing your domain name for an extra year.

Thanks, Ryder, i'll keep my eyes peeled.

I renewed my last due domains for the year yesterday, picked up 2 more for shits and giggles and will likely buy 3 or 4 more before the year is up. I have to find some way to make this cheaper.
The bright side of this is I dont have any domains needing renewed until July 09, so I have a solid 7 months to figure out what to do, and that rocks.

I've heard a lot of bad stuff about godaddy when it comes to adult-type domains. I'll never use them. I've never looked into namecheap though, i'll have to check it out, Thanks.

No problem, i'll be keeping my eyes open too.

You could always do some small batch transfers to a cheaper registrar
say ones that are getting close to renewal date.

Make sure that you give yourself a week before expire though, sometimes the transfer
process can take a bit of time and also hickups like anything else

I just transferred one of my last domains from directnic and they emailed me saying if i contacted them they'd drop costs and add services before they initaited transfer so I'm guessing they are hurting they never used to offer that. But fuck them, give me a fair price to start with and i'm much happier.
I switched to enom and they are ok 10.49/domain. I haven't figure out how to mass change dns info though which is annoying.

I use Namecheap, no problems for years now.

They do charge for transfers, but it comes with 1 year registration for your domain and it costs less than a 1 year domain registration.

Yes, because me recommending namecheap might get someone into sooooo much trouble.

As for your $1000, prove in a court of law that I took your galleries and resold them. If I'm told to pay, I will gladly. But you can't prove that, because regardless of how you spin it...that's not what happened.

Good luck.

I have about 150 domains left at Directnic that I want to move as well. About every 6 months something goes wrong and one of my sites ends up being redirected to their parking pages. And I have to actually pay to use their DNS services...It's too fucking expensive for what you get.

I'm looking for a trustworthy registrar with services such as free privacy and DNS.

Any ideas?

Directnic.com offers volume discounts. I haven't ever paid $15 a domain there.

http://www.directnic.com/features/bulk.php

"directNIC offers quantity discounts as low as US$10.80 per domain for individuals who register multiple domains."

I moved all of my domains from godaddy and namecheap to Moniker.com.

Simple control panel, no ajax bullshit like GD and they gave me a nice price on domains when I talked to an account manager. Plus, apparently they are the most secure registrar around.

I only have a couple of hundred so I'm sure you can get an even better price.

I have also heard great things about fabulous.com

talk to directnic before you leave. Honestly in my opinion, they are the best, the most straight forward and actually answer their phones after two rings. I have been on about 6 registrars and directnic is hands down the best.

Like mentioned earlier, they have bulk discounts, so call them before you transfer and move, because thats a nightmare in itself.

Two days ago their DNS system and all of my DirectDNS domains were down. As it was after business hours the phone just rang and rang. Even their homepage was down. I've had chronic problems with their DNS going out, or even the server records changing for my domains.

At those prices you would think they would have redundant connectivity for their servers.

And what do you know today there is an email about them moving to the Caymans and an all new TOS that we have to agree to.

These guys are still charging $50 for a .tv... So in all $60 for the domain with privacy and DNS. At Namecheap this is 17.99 inclusive.

I wish the Directnic guys would post and tell us what is up, and what the future will bring.
