Manny Ramirez to the Yankees?

How many of you think this will actually happen? Ive read a few articles in the past couple of days saying this is getting more and more likely. Even if they say Man-Ram, they'll still be under last years payroll. This is what the yanks will look like with him in the lineup...

Johnny Damon
Derek Jeter
Mark Teixeira
Alex Rodriguez
Manny Ramirez
Hideki Matsui
Jorge Posada
Xavier Nady
Robinson Cano

That lineup is just sick. If they add Manny...game over. Whats the point of even playing the season...

the average age of that team. plus an accident or 2 and with injuries the playing field is level. those years the yankees won in the late 90's they had few injuries.

and the rotation is still one pitcher short. one ace who has only pitched 200 innings once. a star rookie who will relieve half the year. pitching is still an issue. Tampa still has a stronger rotation.

To ensure it's eventual demise ala the NHL. Remember when the NHL has salaries worth more than the teams? The MLB will go through something similar but not as devastating.

Manny will help them a lot although I think if they sign Manny they will try to trade Matsui for pitching. In the end pitching is what matters. They signed Sabathia who was awesome in the last half of last year, but he has times when he just slumps and so far he has been in forgiving places. If he sucks a game or two in a row in NY they will be tearing him apart. Burnett, the other pitcher they signed, can be amazing one day and then terrible the next so you never know what you are going to get.

That said if Wang is healthy, Pettite comes back and Sabathia and Burnett are good and Joba holds up, they will be very difficult to beat. Thier only potential weakness could be middle relief and with that hitting line-up they should be able to overcome that.

All that said, they still have to play the games. I'm a Mariner fan and before last year started everyone had the Mariners contending for the AL West title and they ended up being the worst team in the league. With all those stars egos could clash and things could not work out and the Yankees could implode. Talent alone should get them to playoffs, but there a team with a couple of hot pitchers and a couple of hot bats can knock you out.

They have what they call a luxury tax. Basically they pick an amount. For next year that number is 162 million. If your teams salaries go over that amount you have to pay a tax to the league. You pay an amount per dollar over that to the league (the amount varies depending on how many times you have gone over it) and the league then takes all the luxury tax money and spreads it out to the smaller market teams.

The yankees will be over it for the fourth time next year so they will get the 40% hit. So say their payroll is 200 million that is 38 million over the cap. That means they will get about a 15 million dollar luxury tax hit. That money goes to the league and the league gives it to smaller teams so they have more to spend in an effort to keep some of their star players around.

The beauty of baseball is that anything can happen. Sure there are teams that normally won't make the playoffs, but often smaller teams do and make a splash. The yankees finished a 3 peat in 2000. Since then there have been 7 different teams that have one it and only Boston has won it twice.

That's the Yankees style, but doesn't guarantee a win. Should keep up viewership and make those Boston/NY series even more interesting to watch

2 words Dallas Cowboys...

Assembling all the "talent" you can doesn't have anything to do with winning. The cowgirls wound up with a ton of pussies with NO heart.

The yankees have the big paychecks. Manny will be batting 230 once he has all that guaranteed money and will be whining when he gets benched. Don't forget that Manny with all his talent is a HEADCASE. the red sox didn't want to deal with his shit and the yankees can't handle ANOTHER nut with A-Rod going nuts.

Jeter is FROM my town but he's always been the most overhyped, overrated player. When A-Rod came to town Jeter should have been moved out of short. He's been one of the worst defensive SS's in the league for years.

The Yankees outfield is slow and has no ability defensively and with the age of the lineup they need depth badly. With such horrible D they BADLY need several more pitchers. A couple big names can't cure things. They need a couple relievers and at least 1 more solid starter.

actually next year the new stadium opens and there's something in place where to help fund the new stadium they get shielded a bit from the luxury tax. i was reading something about HUGE tax breaks the yankees are getting not too long ago.
