Safest would be to go to Alaska or California yourself and mine it

South Africa, in the form of linked chains, not bars. Governments get VERY suspicious of people walking through customs with gold bars, but 24ct linked chains simply look like (very soft) Jewelry. If it is 22ct to 24ct, it will be the same as the bars, and easier to break up into smaller portions if needed.

I would wait though if your money is in dollars. Gold will go down more. Probably to around $650 to $750 as all this unwinds. Long term though it is still the right move I believe.

For the record I have over 1200 ounces of gold and I have purchased from both companies.

I have gold mining interests in California and there's nothing safe about it...

If you want to buy bars, you can get them straight from the refiners that many small miners use: David H. Fell & Co. in LA.

I thought there was a site that u could order directly from ... all the sites I've seen are cheap looking and/or only offer PDF downloads. I want to order 24k bars of gold and have them delivered to my houose ... is this possible?

Most was bought under $600 an ounce. Some I bought years ago when it was very very low. Didn't buy anything over $800. I don't know the average offhand exactly. I may post some pictures later
