what are some of the essential tools?
i'm thinking of getting into podcasting and serving my podcasts up from a wordpress blog.

If you're on OSX, then Garageband makes making podcasts very very easy.

depends what you want to do.

get a mic, record it with audacity or whatever, convert to mp3, upload it to wp, use podpress so people can play it.
