XP Installation HEEEEELP

I got a new laptop a HP Pavillion DV7-1095 it comes with Visa Home Premium
I opened the box at 5pm at 11pm I went online and bought XP so I could install it instead of Vista.
I got the XP CD today but when I try to install it I get the blue screen of death with this error: stop: 0x0000007b
something something Check f:/
F: is the DVD rom

After consulting Google I found that its a problem with the drivers for the SATA drives.
Are there any easy way to solve this or should I take it to the shop and have them install XP for me?

It will be a pain unless you have an HP tailored Win XP cd rather than a typical XP cd sold in a store

Correct, it's possible and they do have XP drivers for it.

You need to get XP the appropriate SATA drivers for your controller so that it can access your hard drive.

Why the hell would you possibly go back to XP?

That blue screen you get right away is just the start.

HP states on their site that they don't supply XP drivers for laptops that only ship with Vista. I had to "fix" my mom's and it took hours to locate the drivers. Shine up your Google hat, you're going into the deep stuff

I'm not sure where you found the drivers for it since on HP's site they don't have XP drivers for your notebook:

Things to do if you changed the OS and your PC is not working properly
If you have already downgraded your computer from Vista to Windows XP, you have probably discovered that your PC does not work properly. You may have noticed that features like sound, DVD, or the webcam on your new PC have stopped working. You are probably wondering where you can find the right XP drivers. HP does NOT provide XP-compatible drivers for PCs that were designed exclusively for Vista. If your PC shipped with Vista, HP supports the installed hardware and software while the PC is operating with the Vista operating system, according to the written agreements.

NOTE: You may attempt to use non-Vista drivers and programs that are provided by other companies; however, HP cannot provide technical support or diagnose potential hardware issues until you reinstall the original Vista operating system.

I assume you just found drivers from other manufacturer using the same hardware?

Well that sucks
I figured it wouldn't be a problem because of what of what I read in the FAQ on the laptop.

Huh? I have it on my computer and it's super fast and compared to XP it crashes about 95% less. Not sure what you're talking about.

I think you might have the same problem as many people who blame Vista for everything they can think of and that's you don't know how to tweak it. Sure straight out of the box it might be a bit slower but if you spend 1 hour on tweaking it it's by far the best consumer OS MS has brought out.

You are FAR better off to go read some Vista tips to speed things up. Vista for me is way faster than XP pro ever was, and that is without tweaks.

Been looking around seems like people have gotten everything to work and I found packs with the drivers.
I'll try to get a buddy to do it for me and worst case I can reinstall Vista

this link has some people that seem to be having the same problem especially with not being able to disable sata on their laptops

Quote:
"Let me inform you that, there is no option to install Windows XP Professional in your notebook. Since, your notebook does not have the option to disable SATA in BIOS settings. Disabling SATA will allow the users to install XP in their notebooks. Also, all the notebooks which fall under dv6500, DV2500, DV9500 series models does not have option to install windows XP professional.

Additionally, your notebook is specially designed and bundled for Windows Vista Operating System. It is not recommend by HP to install Windows XP Professional on a Vista bundled notebook."
Windows 98 stayed on my computer a long time but after using XP for a while I realized why I should have switched earlier ;)

XP is great and I want it back.
Vista takes forever to load, forever to start programs its nice and looks good but the speed sucks.

Give Vista a try and with some tweaks like Franck mentioned you could be surprised.

dont be stupid stay with vista but if you have to be stupid when the windows xp is starting to setup it prompts for install third party drivers or scsi drivers thats when you should have created a floppy with the drivers for your sata drive and put them in and follow instructions.

then it should see the drive. HOWEVER if you could not figure that one out on google how the hell are you going to tailor XP to an HP (propietaritary) laptop made for vista and make it work.

RETURN XP stay with vista.

then my man go back to dealer get faster harddrives that is all your issue. slow harddrives makes your OS spend more RAM than needed. AAHHHHH and very important uninstall all the HP crap they put on it. clean vista should do the trick.

i have same setup you do but desktop

2 monitors 1 20" 1 22"
same amount of ram and VISTA Ultimate 64bit but my drives are faster. 7200 all sata.

thinking of buying a 10k one for OS soon.

Had this problem with a laptop of mine -switching from Vista to XP

Solution: Change the SATA mode in the bios from AHCI to IDE. Problem solved.
