What's the best RAM I can get

I need to upgrade to 4 MB DDR2 Ram so what's the fastest I can buy ?

Do I get 500 MHz, 800MHz or something else ?

Is it better to get 4 1MB sticks or two 2 MP etc ???

3GB I think is the max. I'm not sure what brand is the best but I've never had any problems with Crucial or Kingston. As for the speed just do a search for your motherboard model to see what's the fastest it will support.

If you have 4 slots then I guess it doesn't really matter if you're getting 4x1GB sticks or 2x2GB sticks since you're probably not going to go beyond 4GB total. One other thing to keep in mind is that older motherboards say they support 4GB according to their specs but in reality it's hard to get them stable with the RAM maxed out. An older computer of mine had to have 4x1GB sticks of RAM to get it to post, wouldn't boot with 2x2GB.

Crucial has a tool you can run that tells you the max your system can handle !

People think this is funny and with huge amounts of RAM so cheap you'd think ok I'll buy 8 GB and slap it in.

Well, the max XP can handle is only 4 GB.

the 32-bit XP ya, but the 64-bit will support up to 8GB.

As for the thread starter, what motherboard do you have? (brand and model)
