How to keep things in perspective as a Webmaster

Sure, these are challenging times for webmasters the world over. And all indications point to even more challenges up ahead. However, despite all the recent doom and gloom and uncertainty, this would be a good time to focus on WHAT keeps you going and WHY you do what you do. Bottomline, it's all about reigniting your PASSION for what you do.

Keep things in perspective.

This pictorial of workers the world over is a good start at getting that perspective: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/02/at_work.html

Keep working, Keep moving forward, keep learning and never ever give up!

perspective is fairly easy to maintain.

work or starve.

if you're getting hungry, work a little harder. or diversify your operations.

turds only float for a while before they up and sink.

Fear of starvation is a great motivator but for sustained motivation--passion is key.

I want to be a millionaire, that's my motivation, the internet is a wild frontier still and there's tons of money to be made still. Being a webmaster will be the most rewarding job you'll ever have.

Where else can you work for 3 hours a day and make money every hour of the day even though you're not working?

Most of the work I do is boring, and it means nothing to me.

I only do it because of the result. When the customers tell you how happy they are with a new system, and how much better they are able to support THEIR customers because of what I did - that makes all the difference to me. It's all about creating results, optimizing and correcting errors.

... and getting paid on time

Wouldent call it a paradox really

I belive that "work" is something you do, to make money so you can do what you want in your sparetime.

A lot of people hunt for jobs that are fun, and things they "love doing". I would never hire someone that said they loved doing XXXX. Then what would motivate them to do the work the day they didn't think it was fun work anymore?

My years of playing Mario Brothers would force me to one day jump down one of those pipes....just to see what was down there.

I'm an artist/animator(budding webmaster) who works from home. Every time I think my job sucks, I tell myself "It beats being in some ditch, shoveling shit for a living."

The only part of my job I hate is that sometimes, I have to shovel digital shit.
