If you increase your monthly fee, what happens to your current rebills?

say youre charging $19.95 a month and have 1,000 customers.
then you decide to raise your rates to $24.95 a month.
What happens to those 1,000 customers. Do they stay at $19.95 month?
Do they get bumped up to $24.95/month?

Or do you just cancel them and send a note if they want to stay they need to re-sign back up at $24.95?

If you cancel members at your old price you are going to be kicking your self later... they joined at that price, leave them be. Unless you want chargebacks... then go for it!

When I have done this, the current members remained at whatever price they signed up at.

So they were basically, 'grandfathered'.

exactly.. Why piss the current members off by telling them that they will have to sign up again at a higher price? By doing that you could possibly lose 90% of those members or even have some say fuck you and charge back. Keep them at $19.95 and bill new members at the new price. You're not actually losing $ here, but you stand to lose A LOT if you opt to tell ALL the old members that they have to sign up again at the new higher price.

Why fuck up a good thing?

Actually not increasing the price to current rebilling members increases your chances of them just staying as oppossed to cancel/re-join in a couple of months even if they will actually be spending more money total ;) they will take it as a present for loyalty as well... Those that you think might be extra 5k would probably not happen or kill a potential 20k rebilling force next month ;)

Grandfather the old members. You can also get a rash of new members by advertising that the old rate of $19.95 closes soon.

Considering the economic times, raising prices that much won't get you many new signups.

I think your direct question has been answered... however... I'm gonna give you some advice from my experience.

I went from 19.95 to 29.95 a little over 2 months ago and my signups increased with the same traffic. I am now at over 50% increase and still climbing. If someone is gonna pay... they will. If your site is halfway decent it will sell regardless... don't make it too cheap or they'll think its cheap.

That's really interesting. So when you charge more they have more respect for your site and think it's a higher quality and they will pay more for it. good lesson.
