Of course.

Anyone with even a scrap of economic knowledge knows its going to get worse. The US is destined for almost a decade of recession or a depression once this big spendup is finished and the hundreds of projects need more cash injections ... just look at Japan in the early 90's ... they did the same thing and got smashed for it.

My 401k makes me want to barf but other than that I'd say I'm fairing pretty well. I was lucky enough to buy my house in '03 so even with the way home values have crashed, provided I could find a buyer, I could still offload it for a profit.

Maybe it's just people blowing through their tax refunds, but things seem to be on an upswing around me. Restaurants have been crowded and I've noticed people seem to be spending alot more- or at least it seems that way to me when I've been out shopping, places like petsmart, target, etc.

It's going to get worse. I just keep throwing money in my ira etc and don't look at how much it is losing since I'm only 26. I'm being smarter with how much I'm spending on new advertising and such as I just don't have the funds to keep testing out new sources right now as ratios / sales keep getting worse.

The crazy thing is life is just going on as normal. Not sure what you guys are seeing but only some neighborhoods are really wracked by foreclosures. There is a city near Minneapolis that tried to make the banks fix the houses up before they could be sold and destroyed their local market. I grew up in this neighborhood so I know the history. This house was built in 76 or so for 50k and went through 225k around 2005. I made an offer of 65k and am waiting to hear. How crazy is that?

Who won't make panic on this crisis. Everyone is feeling nervous even the richest people think about this major problem that we're experiencing at the moment.

I think we just need to think positive and we shouldn't lose our hope.
Let's keep on fighting!

Don't fret about it. The key is stepping back, reexamining your model from the ground up, and adapting to the climate. There is money to be made in any economic condition, and peoples performance in the tougher times makes the cream rise to the top, and the crap sink to the bottom.

I just saw a family packed in a mini van going door to door offering to shovel driveways. They got twenty bucks from my neighbor to clear out a big drive way, walk way and side walk.

but consumer spending was up in Jan. Even if unemployment goes to 10 percent that still means alot of people are still working making a living. The media isnt helping its like the daily horror show.

I apologize if that's what it seemed like I was saying. I completely agree that countless honest people are suffering due to this recession/depression. My statement was geared more toward business owners, not employees.

I have a $200k line of credit on my house as a second mortage. If things get worse (for me) I will write myself a check and take all my money our and let the bank take my house.

It will kind of be like selling my house to the bank at 2004 prices, even though they don't really want to buy it.

I have been to the las vegas airport 3 times in the last month, it's soooo slow. I have never seen anything like it.

I just don't understand why retailers, airlines, resturants and grocery stores ect.....don't lower the prices. Vegas is still charging the same amount for rooms. Valentines night the "better" holtels were still around 450-500 for that night.

It's so depressing, I just try to find thing's to do that don't cost alot of money.

Thats still a business model that should not exist, and that's being in business and relying on loans.

I am a member of a private forum that traders/economists use. The owner just won a pretty big award for his reporting on the economy. Every trading day he keeps a locked thread going where he posts what is happening on the markets literally up to the second. Here is the post he just made:

Quote:
Back over 20:1 A/D, heading for 30:1 at this rate.

That's simply unbelievable.

There is just no strength and no resiliance anywhere. I am unfortunately coming to the opinion that we're simply done - economically, politically and otherwise.

SPX 300 is looking more and more likely.

Likewise some guy on a bicycle knocked on my door about a month ago looking to do lawn work for cash. I gave him $60 to cut back my trees. I'm sure he would have taken less but didn't think it would be right.

They're are giving money to criminals like AIG. These idiots have been scamming and stealing money left and right. The US is handing out free money to these fuck ups and of course it's not going to work.

Recovery packages have never worked in the history of recovery packages. I think we would have been better off not bailing out anyone. Let the people running bad businesses go out of business. Look at Japan they had a bailout that failed. Look at the Great Depression that bailout was a huge failure. Why try something that has a 100% failure rate, makes no sense.

Obama is obviously not experienced listen to his speeches how many times does he stumble over his own words. We are FUCKED and I think we have decades of this shit and US will be a 3rd world country in a matter of months.

I find it VERY funny, that some of the people who were just saying a month ago everything is fine finally changing their tune. They were arrogant, saying it is time to BUY stocks, we are gonna get rich, when some were trying to tell them shit was going to get way worse.

Is this the end? Nope. Not by a long shot. I have been telling family members for over a year this was coming and like alot of people they just didn't see it. They sure the hell see it now, fat good it will do them now though.

If you are just now getting worried you are to late to the game and should have been paying more attention alot sooner than now.

I don't know where you got your information from, but it is well known that the main reason why the Japanese took so long to recover is because they didn't act soon enough. Our economists knew that, and that's why most of them recommended this stimulus package. In fact, many say we should have even used more money than the $782 billion that they used. So we have done the right thing by acting very quickly here. That said, nothing is going to turn this around anytime soon. But preventing a decade long recession was key.

It's so depressing, I just try to find thing's to do that don't cost alot of money.
Did you book directly with the hotel? Trump is charging $89/night even on the weekends. Additionally you get $50 for the spa. Hotels.com was charging $109/night for the same package.

Tony mentioned it, spending actually tried to creep up in January.

If Obama really wanted to help he would ask the media to stop making every story about how terrible the economy is. I saw a story on Yahoo about making your own make-up in these tough economic times. What bullshit!

Also, personal saving went to it's highest level since 1995 which proves people are just scared to spend which is contributing to the trouble.

People are spending money but just not on frivolous shit. You dont get it do you? The US government is basically printing money on faith, and the world has no faith in our crooked politicians and economy right now.
This is not even close to over, you WILL be growing your own food by the time this is all said and done.
