So sold washer and dryer on craigslist

Sold them on Mon or tuesday. Pretty new washer and dryer. Both worked perfectly. No damage to them, used them just before we moved to new place and everything worked great. Guy calls me today telling me the washer is leaking internally and he wants a refund and to bring them back, but washer as I said worked perfect no leaks or anything the day before we moved. I moved them personally and know no damage was done from our old place to our new, and they only set in the garage for the last week or so.

So I told the guy I would come over and look at the washer and see if I could figure it out whats going on with it. There are many reasons it could be happening. The place where the drain hose goes could be plugged and causing it to back up into the machine, few other things. Should I tell him to screw the pooch or what here? There was still a load of clothes in the dryer that I forgot to pack and was still in the dryer when he picked them up, so he knows they were working just fine. Its not huge money, but its 400.00. Im just annoyed right now, as they worked perfectly fine while in my care.

So opinions?

Odds are his water hook up is what is leaking. Either way my thoughts would be it is an AS IS sale unless you made some sort of claims in your ad - such as works perfect.

Im thinking his drain is plugged and backing up into the machine. He swears its leaking internally, but he called me back a couple times saying he thought it was the connection. Im pretty sure he is either doing something stupid, or its something silly. The irritating part is Im sure if I do refund him, Ill be able to easily fix whatever the problem is, and then have to go through selling them again. Far enough across town it will annoy me to drive over there to find out he is an idiot and did something wrong.

When u go over there, trick him into leaving the room. Then, piss in the dryer and shit in the washer, turn them both on and run out of the house.

Who writes a contract to sell a few appliances? I wrote no guarantee saying they would work, nor did I in the add. I know 100% they would of worked fine if I hooked them up here. I was very gentle moving them. Just annoying when you think something is done and over with, and then being pestered after its out of your mind.

Ok here is something to think about.... You sell them with no contract. They load their clothes then leave for hours. They come back and their house is flooded. Guess who they are going to sue?

I always issue reciepts with such notes on them. I keep a carbon reciept book for anytime money changes hands.

They can sue but would never win. There is no evidence he sold faulty machines.
It's buyer beware, the buyer has the responsibilty to have them checked out by a proffesional or take as is.

This was my thoughts also. Not out to screw anyone over, but if he damaged it moving it into his house, or during his move that shouldn't fall on me. I know nothing was damaged during the move to our new house for a fact as I personally moved it myself using a hand truck and ramped onto the moving truck. Covered with moving blankets and was secure for the 6 mile drive, back down off the ramp and loaded off the the side of the garage never close to any sort of damage possibilities.

Grr don't have time for this shit this week.

No contract required, it's "Caveat emptor" or "Let the buyer beware.".

As long as you didn't misrepresent the item or offer any guarantees. The washer did not "leak interntally" when you used it at your house so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thats my feeling. Im willing to go over there and take a look at least. Not all the difficult to pull the machine apart so you can see where the leak is coming from. I want to be fair, but I feel like if it is damaged somehow, it was done during transport into his house.

If it were me I would go over and take a quick look. If it is something simple that you can fix fast, cool. Or if you know what the problem is and can fix it I would. If not I would take it back and give him his money back. Even if he damaged it during transport. I would then fix it and resell it. It is a pain in the ass, but it is how I would want to be treated so I would extend that to them. Call it good karma or whatever. Anyway. That is my too long of a post 2 cents.

looks like he got the panel off and its a cracked tub. So now don't know what to do. 187.00 for replacement part, so no good there, but if they damaged it in their move I dunno. Im thinking I should offer him 100.00 back as he wants to keep the dryer. And split the responsibility on the washer. Most Ill do is 150.00 back. I think that is fair. I dunno. I can only say how I myself handled the moving of the washer. No idea what happened after it left here.

it almost would of paid to keep it connected and ran in front him. so then if moving it they broke it would of been sol.

as is... its probably a hook up problem. but most people will complain and demand things... before taking the time to look over the problem and see if there is a simple why to fix it.

Situation has changed. He sent me pics, tub is cracked, but there is no way I cracked it myself. But no way to prove it wasn't cracked before they picked it up. Grr.

yeah i'd just offer $100 back. and explain that it was in working order when you last used it, etc etc, and that it was sold as is and you have no way to know if the damage was caused when they moved it.

BUT that you don't want them to feel like they are being screwed, and don't want to feel the same for yourself. so you're willing to offer $100 for the replacement part.

.. seriously, just be honest with them.
