Hosting Question - What Would You Do?

After more than a year on your box, you realize that you haven't been on the the right box and have pretty much been paying double for lesser hardware than you had initially signed up for. Proper hardware was not available at the time and we were too be moved once it was delivered. Seems this might have fallen through the cracks.

While I'm pretty sure it's just a mix up and not anything to be pissed off about, what sort of compensation would you be looking for if you were in this position?

Was your payment higher specifically because of the hardware? If it was, then you should get that money back. If it wasn't, you really didn't lose anything unless the inferior hardware impacted your business somehow... which I'm sure you would have already noticed. In that case, a free month or some sort of free upgrade would be appropriate.

I am paying for a Quad core and it looks like I am on a Dual core. This has been the case for the past 15 months.

Actually, it could just be a setting that makes it appear that is is dual and not quad.

Ask for a refund (or credit on your account to avoid them getting a charge back).

A support tech from the company has verified this. We aren't on the sever we are paying for.

As I mentioned, when I was setup the proper hardware wasn't available and was being shipped in. So I was set up on another box and told I would be moved when the box arrived.

It's more than likely just a mix up. I just don't know where to begin with regards to compensation.

Request that you get compensated for the difference that you paid for the last 15 months. It's their fault not yours. Be polite and I'm sure they will do whatever they have to.

Good luck.

Has your server been doing a good job for you for the past year? I am not saying what the hosting company did was right, but if you are happy with everything else about the company and you now realize that you only needed a Dual Core, why not just ask them to leave you on the same server with a SUPER sweet price from here on out? It would be a win-win situation. The hosting company does not have to spend money on a box that you really don't need....and you get a super duper low price from now on and dont have to worry about migrating to a new server.

Just a thought....I know that hosting companies make mistakes but it sounds like there was not a real negative impact on your business and it sounds like you are happy with them in every other aspect....so why not offer something to them that will be easy on them and will save you money forever?

I hope it all works out for you either way!

The server does work for our purposes just fine. I have no problem staying on this machine and getting a discounted rate for the next year or so, if that's the case.

Shouldn't they be the ones making the offer to compensate me? I know I'm asking for suggestions, but am I wrong for thinking that they should be trying to make this right? Mistake or not.

Personally, I do not think that it is too much to ask....I would feel the same way if I were you.....but I also understand how most business people think. Especially in tough times, they are probably going to leave it to you to complain that you feel slighted and then they will look at what they have to do to make you happy. Is it right? I don't know, but it is probably just the way its going to be.

Hope I am at least a little bit of help ;)

Most likely this is the case unless there was a mixup. I would suggest you contact support and tell them you are contemplating upgrading. Ask them what the specs on the box are just to be sure.

If you like, I can have one of our techs log in and see what it is as well. LMK

Why did it take 15 months for you guys to notice this?

Gotta check your stuff when you buy it! I had a similar situation with a dedicated box. I had ordered an 80gb, I received a 40gb. Gotta get that stuff resolved asap.

Don't think we're not feeling a bit foolish ourselves here. I just assumed they did what they said they were going to do.

I'm not upset at anyone. They go out of their way on the support end of things. I'm not a customer who's going anywhere. Due to the initial setup and switch, it's possible the was a mix up. I'm just looking for some feedback on fair compensation if what it looks like happened actually did happen.

Candyflip, your hosting is too important to pussy-foot around with a company that hasn't done right by you. How can you trust them now and believe that they will not have an oversight in the future too?

I don't know what hosting company you are having these issues with. But my personal advice is to MOVE TO NATIONAL NET (Sweet T's hosting co.)! I've been hosting with Nat Net for many many moons (10 years or so now) and I HIGHLY recommend them in every aspect! Pricing is great, connection speeds are superior, support is Second-To-None, and my sites are never down.

You can already see the level of support you get when you're not even a customer from Sweet T.

And no, I don't work for National Net, I just host with them and always will!!

Best of luck to you.

I'm sure they appreciate the glowing recommendation, as I do their feedback.

I'm just looking for some thoughts and opinions, not a new host.

I would ask for the correct price if you are going to continue using the current hardware.

Some might say that its just as much your fault for not following up, so getting money back for the last year might be more of a headache than its worth.

If you are happy with the service, I would politely tell them about it and get it fixed. You might be saving them more headaches than just your account (perhaps a bug in software)

I'm not trying to get any money back. I've already taken my deductions.

A credit and price adjustment for sticking with the lower spec'd server would be a nice start.

I agree with you 100%. As much as I appreciate Amber's recommendation (she knows how much I love her) I always tell people that if you are happy with your current host YOU SHOULD STAY THERE. Moving hosts is not something that I press upon people. From my first post in this thread I have gotten the feeling that you were happy with everything other than this one inadvertent mistake, so I have tried to offer you options on how to make things better with your current host, as opposed to taking the opportunity to try to convince you to leave.

I *TRULY* hope that you are able to work things out with your current host.

No resolution as of yet.

Was told they were looking into it and I haven't heard back in over 48 hours.

Is this Linux?

"cat /proc/cpuinfo"

Paste the results here. Sometimes it is hard to tell what is what.
