Very Explicit Domains...good or bad?

What is your opinion on using very explicit domains even for adult websites?

recently I have been thinking about the use of fuck, pussy, cocks, etc. in the domain name and that it might cause issues. I would imagine if someone made a complaint regarding something they thought was obscene on your website...or even a domain dispute. It just seems like a dead givaway that your promoting porn if your domains is fuckthatwethotasianpussy.com

pussy.org still up and running.
I also have a few pussy and cock domains and I haven't received any complaints.

Pretty much the same as with hyphens, brandable vs. generic, and other kinds of things that'd potentially hurt the name - they're fine as long as the quality of the name makes up for it.

Speaking of which, I have Fuck.co.in for sale if you'd be interested.

I have a few for sale such as FuckingDevices (.com)..HotFuckCams etc but not many though...actually I just chatted with someone who said the more explicit domains he buys the more they seems to do well.

Maybe its all down to comfort levels in holding such.

I meant it might be best to stay away from the more explicit domains...

Well then to answer your post more clearly, unless you're targeting some TM using an obscene word, given you are talking about porn sites on domains with obscene words, I don't understand why you'd be afraid of either complaints about obscene things on your website OR about domain disputes.

The only thing you'd have to worry about afaik is filters, and as such the domain would have to be better if it has obscene words for it to be worth using.

No complaints or disputes...but my domain list was found at my job and many are very explicit...and it was very awkward as you can imagine. Seeing co-workers reaction is what has me thinking.

Well in my case, given I deal about 90% in mainstream and 10% in adult, I don't make mention of any adult domains except in places like this or adult sections of the mainstream forums. I have a list of mainstream domains on my site, but no adult names publicly posted otherwise.

Yea unfortunately you do have to be careful...it's hard to completely stay away from using domains that aren't obviously adult domains so it's more a matter of watching out where those names are listed as being tied in with you.

Other than I comfort level I dont see why ? Godaddy have no problem with them and if your sites are on a adult friendly host ...people can complain but its no different than mainstream complaints about something someone finds offensive.

So you are talking personally, not business-wise. Claire nailed it then.

To add to this, I did domain stuff during the entire 3 and a half years I had a day job. I did adult domain stuff almost throughout that entire time too. In general, if I ever did speak about what I did, I did it in more of a general sense, and if I mentioned any specifics, I did only mainstream specifics, and again didn't list adult names on my website, but would privately and/or at places like this seek out buyers for them. I never ended up having any problems.

I would think that having obscene words in the domain is fine. But, it would mean that the site is implied to be "Viewer discretion is advised. Not suitable for all viewers."

I guess a little of both, my wife knows what I do everynight at the computer...I just try not to stick it in her face. Our discussions are about we both want a better way of living in the future...and making money online while I am sleeping is great. Plus I work 9-5 and she is an RN. But she also said she does not want me to have any legal problems. So in the back of my head I guess I just have a little bit of paranoia. So I am forming an LLC just in case of any problems in the future.

Not to hi-jack the thread but I have a question kind of in the same realm.

What is your view on say a domain like ISlapBitches.com - I Slap Bitches . com. I dont own it but I have a site in mind that is niche specific and it is in the same realm as the .com just mentioned. There is a niche site that has the same words but I would rearange the words and put an "I" in front of it.

Any issues you think?

As I mentioned earlier it depends on YOUR comfort zone, job,lifestyle...for me I could handle any domain if I so wished...

As regards the legal side , excluding trademarks etc you can do as you want almost...

Here is a post from a forum yesterday......Some may find it offensive but its all a personal choice.

*************
I recently sold the domain IWantABlackBaby.com for $$$. I'm looking to sell a couple of similar domains on the cheap:

GiveMeABlackBaby.com
MakeMeABlackBaby.com
