7 Horror Movies That Deserve A Second Chance

7 Horror Movies That Deserve A Second Chance
by asspirate

If Hollywood needed to remake horror movies, then they should concentrate on obscure gems that needed updating or movies that had a great idea but the execution went South because of either lack of budget, technology or just imagination. Here are my suggestions.

Society (1989)

CONCEPT:
A Los Angeles teenager finds himself increasingly alienated with his family. While his upper crust family flaunts how life has been good to them, he's all about subtlety and discretion. Even his girlfriend has suddenly changed, but things suddenly turn for the surreal when his sister's boyfriend showed him his family's secret double life

SELLING POINT:
The horrific last twenty minutes of the movie (which I will not spoil).

WHY REMAKE:
Yuzna worked with a meager budget to finish this movie two decades ago. Computer graphics and better actors will make this a remarkable retread.

Nightbreed (1990)

CONCEPT:
A man finds out that he's not human and goes out to find his kin hidden in a city inhabited by subterranean monsters. All this with a serial killer hot on his trail.

SELLING POINT:
Freaky scary but cool monsters hiding in an old cemetery.

WHY REMAKE:
The short story was dark, gothic and gory. The movie was just schlocky and a bit too artsy-fartsy, even with horrormeister David Cronenberg as a wonderfully deranged serial killer. With horror scribe Clive Barker experiencing a renaissance with more than five movies on the Hollywood pipeline, Nightbreed can be an ace in his...ahem...hole.

Xtro (1983)

CONCEPT:

Horror movie about a family man who's kidnapped by aliens and returns back to Earth kookier than Bjork.

SELLING POINT:
What if ET turns out to be a psychotic baddie? And Maryam D'Abo gets nasty with a toy clown in the bathtub.

WHY REMAKE:
Creepy alien movies about alien abduction and family drama. Oprah can watch it!

Phantasm (1979)

CONCEPT:
A young boy, Mike, and his older brother, Jody, investigate a series of disturbing grave robbing in their town. When they find the Tall Man is behind it all, Hell comes knocking on their door.

SELLING POINT:

The Tall Man and his terrifying flying balls of death!

WHY REMAKE:
The first three movies were all amazing popcorn horror fare. And the trailers scared the hell out of kids during the early Eighties. This franchise has grounded to a halt and needed a renewed push.

Brain Damage (1988)

CONCEPT:
A drug addict gets high from a parasitical killer penis who likes to eat brains.

SELLING POINT:

A drug addict gets high from a parasitical killer penis who likes to eat brains.

WHY REMAKE:

Like, duh...

Night of the Lepus (1972)

CONCEPT:

Mutated rabbits become bloodthirsty predators who terrorize an Arizona ranch.

SELLING POINT:
Giant bunny rabbits gone berserk in the desert.

WHY REMAKE:

Because murderous mutated rabbits are fun, fun, fun!

The Medusa Touch (1978)

CONCEPT:

A man in a coma is revealed to have been the cause of many major disasters in London.

SELLING POINT:
The Omen meets the X-men meets a disaster movie.

WHY REMAKE:

Superhuman who's not a do-gooder for a change. Add creepy quasi-supernatural atmosphere and you get box office gold.

I loved Nightbreed. I'm pretty sure that was a Clive Barker flick.
