:mad Obama administration 'anti-religious,' Gingrich says

Yes, he is the anti-christ , the incarnation of evil, the messenger of the devil ....

Quote:
(CNN) ? Newt Gingrich said Tuesday the Obama administration is "intensely secular" and "anti-religious," the former House Speaker's second hard-hitting criticism of the new administration this week.

In an interview with FOX News, Gingrich said he strongly disagreed with Obama's choice of Harry Knox ? an outspoken activist for gay rights ? to the White House advisory council on faith-based initiatives.

"I think their goal is to have a very secular America in which government dominates everything," he said. "Why wouldn't you put an anti-religious, left-wing zealot on a faith-based group? It's a perfect pattern for this administration."

... but ... ???? isn't that in the US constitution, separation of church and state ???? Or did I miss the update !!!

Good, religion doesn't belong in politics.

Yes the founding fathers of our country were almost all outspoken Atheists.

"Lighthouses are more useful than churches" - Benjamin Franklin

"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man" -Thomas Jefferson

"This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it!" -John Adams

Just to quote a few...

Here's another Jefferson quote, one from Lincoln, and several from people we normally consider to be pretty smart and knowledgeable

“Religions are all alike – founded upon fables and mythologies.” [Thomas Jefferson]

“The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession. I could never give assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma.” [Lincoln]

“It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against christianity and theism produce hardly any effect on the public; and freedom of thought is best promoted by the gradual illumination of men’s minds which follows from the advance of science.” [Darwin]

“If we believe absurdities, we shall commit atrocities.” [Voltaire]

“I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own — a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism.” [Einstein]

“Faith means not wanting to know what is true.” [Nietzsche]

“I cannot believe in the immortality of the soul…. No, all this talk of an existence for us, as individuals, beyond the grave is wrong. It is born of our tenacity of life – our desire to go on living … our dread of coming to an end.” [Edison]

“Religion is a byproduct of fear. For much of human history, it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn’t killing people in the name of God a pretty good definition of insanity?” [Arthur C. Clarke]

“Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith, I consider a capacity for it terrifying and absolutely vile.” [Kurt Vonnegut]

“Religion is based . . . mainly on fear . . . fear of the mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death. Fear is the parent of cruelty, and therefore it is no wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in hand. . . . My own view on religion is that of Lucretius. I regard it as a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race.” [Bertrand Russell]

Simply brilliant. It's hard to drag humanity kicking and screaming into modern life where the world is small and you can talk and see a person on the other side of the planet in just a second.

The preservative party is going to have a hard time resisting much longer I'd say.

All GREAT quotes! Thanks a lot for those. I always get all fuzzy feeling when great people like them say things I have felt since childhood. It seems some minds are able to know these truths and the rest are, as they say... insane!

Long time no speak fusionx, how you been?

Wonder how Gingrich would feel if the separation of Church and State was nullified and we ended up with Catholicism or *gasp* Islam as our national religion. Government has no business mucking in people's religion and religion has no business mucking in government.

I've always thought the biggest problem religions have with non-believers is that a person could have a system of moral conduct not rooted in self-industry that was also not handed down from a deity.

Dont kid yourselves, when the shit hits the fan and the last light of your life fades, each and every one of you says "Oh my God".

Not saying I believe in a "single God" but certainly there are things out there that are greater than us, I dont get all the hatred.

Yes obviously I print all the money in the United States with "In God we trust" on it.

Do you really believe this is a theocratic government?

i believe that some people are capable of forgetting the past; and why mixing religion and government is simply wrong.

i think those symbols on currency and POA are representations of religion and people, i don't think, and far as i know, your founding fathers as well, that representation should never bear on the actions of the government of the united states.

Religion isnt bad and Government isnt bad.

Its when people in Government use religion as a weapon in politics that is bad.
Happens everywhere. The people affected most are usually the people whom that government cares least about.

Sheep.... Its all about hearding sheep.

Great quotes, great thread.

<--Athiest.

To each their own, but since we can't all agree, let's just leave our government god-free.

The Washington and the Jefferson administrations were also anti-religious according to his standards. Jefferson went so far, in fact, that he wrote his own version of the Bible!
