*Business Thread !* Important Article*The Legal Rights To Celeb/Porn Star Domains
I just found this interesting topic in my sedo newsletter discussing PornStar and Celeb domains and your rights if you own such.
This topic gets mentioned a few times on gfy so here is the write up. Celebrity Cybersquatting: The Legal Implications of Celebrity Domain Names By Liz Oliveira, Legal Team Celebrity domain names are a perplexing facet of the domain industry. Currently, there are countless celebrity domain name registrations owned by persons other than the celebrity. Yet, when ownership rights of a celebrity domain name are contested, the majority of disputes resolve in favor of the celebrity. This article examines why celebrities have such favorable results through the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP.) The provisions of the UDRP regarding personal names are not always easily met. Celebrity or not, a complainant must prove three elements to prevail in a UDRP proceeding....Click Here To Read The Full Article

It worked well
![]() ![]() Now i've finished reading it I can say this is very interesting! I wonder whether it will relate to Trademarked sites aswell....... Just recently i purchased a few sites with very common site names in them and plan to use them to promote apps and products related to them sites. whether i'm in the wrong or not I don't know, but it could be interesting. The other thing interesting about this article is (and i'll give an example from the way i see it) If there was a girl called "britney spears" and it was her real name, and she purchased britneyspearsnude.com, why would the celeb britney spears have any rights over that domain (not saying she does either) Very interesting way of perceptions on the internet IMO because domains are normally one word (in theory) how can you determine what they are being used for? www. moneysexchange.com could be moneys exchange or money sex change. how can britneyspears.com be definately defined as britney spears . com and not britneys pears .com? Just my idea on the subject anyway |
