I lived out in SA from the age of 2 until we went back to the Uk just before my 18th birthday

I loved the place and I know its not as fucked up as Kenya but yeah I saw some pretty nasty shit, The trouble is, is when you actually live in a country like SA you dont realise how bad it actually is, I thought is was the "norm" because I was so young when we went over there. I know that there are some species of animals that will kill not only for food but as you say for dominance and probably for several other reasons as well but I am not sure that they derive the same twisted pleasure that some people do from killing.
