Dell Mini Netbooks for $199

Their business edition of the Mini 9, the Vostro A90 is on sale today for $199 if anyone has been looking to pick one up. It's identically spec'd out Mini 9 is around $400. I'm gonna give one to my parents for Christmas.

I've already got a pretty light HP with a 14" screen. I bring it everywhere with me.

Are these things really that useful?

I love my 9" eeepc for travelling... Barely notice it's in my bag. It's also great for using in public, you can have it at a table at a restaurant and it doesn't have that antisocial "I'm on my laptop" feeling, it's more like a pda. When I'm at home I just rest it on the arm rest of the sofa...

Thinking of getting one of these at some point. They need a built in air card or some sort of a cell data plan to go with them.

Verizon was giving them away I think, if you signed up for 1 year of service.

I'm reading now about integrating 3G from the cell providers inside the units via hardware/software hack.

This is the best deal I've found on a new unit. I picked up a used Mini 9 on eBay with no bluetooth or camera for about $2 less with shipping and tax and whatnot.

When all I need is access to the web and email, these are the perfect little tool. I installed OSX on mine in less than an hour. It runs like a charm. I even loaded World of Warcraft onto an SD card and it plays quite nicely too.

As of now, none of these little guys will run it. At least, no one is bothering to run it if they can.

BUT...MS has tweaked Windows 7, which supposedly runs quite nicely.
