:tongue Only those that grew up in NY can understand the meaning of this:

THERE IS NO NORTH AND SOUTH.
IT'S 'UPTOWN' OR 'DOWNTOWN'.
AND EAST OR WEST IS 'CROSS-TOWN'.

YOU RIDE IN A SUBWAY CAR WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE SEATS AVAILABLE.

YOU TAKE THE TRAIN HOME AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHERE ON THE PLATFORM THE DOORS WILL OPEN THAT WILL LEAVE YOU RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE EXIT STAIRWAY.

YOU KNOW WHAT A 'REGULAR' COFFEE IS.

IT'S NOT MANHATTAN ...IT'S THE 'CITY.'

YOU CROSS THE STREET ANY WHERE BUT ON THE CORNERS AND YOU YELL AT CARS FOR NOT RESPECTING YOUR RIGHT TO DO IT.

YOU MOVE 3,000 MILES AWAY, SPEND 10 YEARS LEARNING THE LOCAL LANGUAGE AND PEOPLE STILL KNOW YOU'RE FROM BROOKLYN, LONG ISLAND OR THE BRONX THE MINUTE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH.

YOU RETURN AFTER 10 YEARS AND THE FIRST FOODS YOU WANT ARE A 'REAL' PIZZA , A 'REAL' BAGEL, and 'REAL' CHINESE FOOD.

YOU ARE NOT UNDER THE MISTAKEN IMPRESSION THAT ANY HUMAN BEING WOULD BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND A P.A. ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE SUBWAY.

YOU'RE NOT THE LEAST BIT INTERESTED IN GOING TO TIMES SQUARE ON NEW YEAR'S EVE.

YOUR INTERNAL CLOCK IS PERMANENTLY SET TO KNOW WHEN ALTERNATE SIDE OF THE STREET PARKING REGULATIONS IS IN EFFECT.

YOU KNOW WHAT A BODEGA IS!!!!!!!

SOMEONE BUMPS INTO YOU AND YOU CHECK FOR YOUR WALLET.

YOU DON'T EVEN NOTICE THE LADY WALKING DOWN THE ROAD HAVING A PERFECTLY NORMAL CONVERSATION WITH HERSELF.

YOU CRINGE AT HEARING PEOPLE PRONOUNCE HOUSTON ST. LIKE THE CITY IN TEXAS .

THE PRESIDENTIAL VISIT IS A MAJOR TRAFFIC JAM, NOT AN HONOR.

YOU CAN NAP ON THE SUBWAY AND NEVER MISS YOUR STOP.

THAT'S NEW YORK , BABY! YA GOTTA LOVE IT.

You forgot the fact that every Caribbean nation holds at least 3 parades a year in the city that completely snarl up traffic each time.

You could always point those stores out cause the only thing they sold, or had in them were beverages, potato chips and cigarettes

So a diet coke, and a bag of 50 cent Cheetos was 11.50 lol

I Love It.
I spent 25 years in NYC, the last 15 living in Times Square.
I'm in upstate NY now, needed space and land to expand my empire. The $5500 in rent I was paying sure goes a lot further outside The City.
My Mother used to come visit me and loved to walk through Washington Square Park and we would take bets on how many drug dealers would approach us walking from one side of the park to another...
Your post made me feel good.
Thanks!

Much of that could also apply to Toronto.

If its not a "multicultural parade" - its a multicultural protest that snarls up traffic.

LOL. I miss NY!! No where like it on earth!! I have been in LA for 5-6 years now and the "real pizza" statement really hits home. When I go to the east coast to visit I bring a backpack back to LA filled with TastyKakes and '"real pizza" that my grand ma will slice up and put it into zip-lock baggies.

Ummmmm. Real pizza.

I'm a Jersey boy, and the only think I miss is the fucking pizza. The pizza here in California sucks.

I went "home" a few years ago for a funeral and the following day I was invited over to my Aunt's house, where all of the family was going to be gathered to spend some high quality bonding time with me being as I so rarely make it to the east coast these days. She told me I could pick what I wanted to eat and I told her pizza. She got us all some crappy fucking Dominos or something.

Oh, I miss those crappy little pizza joints with seating for just a handful of people.

During that trip I had the chance to visit my hometown, which was a bit of a drive from where we were staying and where the rest of the family lives. I got to visit my favorite pizza place. After our meal my wife looked at me and said "Now I understand why you always bitch about pizza in California".

Maybe, hole in the wall?

Best set up that I saw was a music shop with a bathroom. In this bathroom was a blacklight plugged into a socket in the wall.

Homeboys were in the vacant shop next door and when you knocked on the wall with the blacklight, the plug socket wiring box & all slid out with the blacklight still plugged in and lit up but behind it was an acrylic slide tray they had fashioned. Threw your money in they slid you the weed and then retracted the plug/slide.

They also made sure u left with some real product like a bag of incense while the weed was stashed by your balls or sock etc.

I'm glad this post made alot of you feel good. Although it's been 15 yrs since I haven't lived in NY, I have been back twice this year alone. I reconnected with an OLD high school friend, and he called me this morning just to mess with me (to top it off he owns a pizzeria)

Needles to say it inspired the thread. Feel free to add to it, especially those of you who are now transplanted somewhere else

He's had his ads out for over 25 years!

Makes me miss NYC. I don't agree with the REAL CHINESE though, although it was nice to get some cheap walk up lunch specials and an occasional sit down in Chinatown, I was never too impressed with the Chinese food.

But I had a separate favorite pizza spot depending on which kind of slice I was in the mood for.
White pizza w/tomatos, Nino's on St. Marks & Ave A, plain cheese, Rosario's on Houston...
