Have you been there?
I have been twice and its ok for a vacation however not somewhere I would even consider. San Jose is way to violent a city for me, street muggings etc.

I've been living here for almost 4 years as a tourist (I end up travelling frequently so it's not a big deal), and have no plans to apply for residency.

As far as using a company to do it, you'll have to have a legit business and employ several locals. The backlog for applications is insane right now too, it'll take you years before you actually get it.

If going on a trip every 90 days is within your budget I don't see any reason to get residency personally.

I would like to visit there soon. I have zero interest in San Jose however. I would like to rent a mountainside hotel or house, overlooking the ocean, but not on the beach at all.

Preferably a place that is on the cooler side (temperature-wise), or a place where there is lots of natural wildlife (birds, monkeys, etc.).

Any suggestions?

Hey Adultmix,

I know a guy who purchased a coffee farm there, which included land and a house, and already employs a few locals, so maybe that's an angle for you? Purchase a pre-existing biz and then do the adult on the side or something?

Where? Never heard of it. Sounds like a dump though. Probably full of Costa Ricans.

That's awesome, except your chances of getting high speed internet in such a place are very very low

Not much of a vacation whenever you have high speed internet. A few days without the internet may be a good thing.

I have friends living in Tamarnido and Mal Pais.

I've traveled around there a bit and love Mal Pais. Southern Tip of the Niccoya.

Im told that Escazu area or Santa Ana are good, thats in the valley and it snot that hot and humid. Travelling to Urop aint cheap, considering all the family thats why im thinking residency.

I plan on flying there this September to see the shit around.

I lived in Escazu 4 years. The traffic has gotten horrible and construction and overcrowding all over. If you want to get away from Americans, Escazu is not the place to be.
Santa Ana is more local. Not as overcrowded as Escazu but its getting there fast!
You will need to learn spanish, and you better like Earth Quakes!

How is the food and quality of air and water? I've heard only good things about Costa Rica businesswise.

Escazu and Santa Ana are quite expensive, more so than living in the USA. They're also the nicest parts of the central valley... Santa Ana is the warmest part, Escazu is cooler and gets more rain. The whole central valley is at 3500 feet elevation, so it's way cooler than either coast (which are hot and humid and feel more like how you'd expect central america to be).

How is your spanish? You'd better be willing to learn fast.

There's a lot of pollution in the valley from crappy cars and trucks and stuff... If you're not on the main roads though it's fine. Water is drinkable but I personally don't, they overchlorinate it and it has a funny taste. It's not like Mexico where you can't drink it though.

Looks fine. Not super expensive. I live in urban town and i know what traffic and pollution is, i only drink bottled water for 8 years now. I dont mind running used truck to get around, i dont speak Spanish at all so far, I need internet access but i dont care if its high speed, cable or adsl 512 would work too. What i also need is a school for my sons, they are getting the age to think about it.

So, the family living, chilling under the trees and walking the beach, working online as usual. Ive been trying USA for years, no fucking luck im getting work visa, Canada gave me promises but new rules keep fucking around so I dont know if it happens at all.

It looks fucked for me from those ways. So, Costa Rica seems ok. My only concern is tropic climate. Humid hot weather.
