plasma recommendations?

I know some gfyers must have bought a tv recently or know a lot about them. What's a great plasma out there currently? Was at bestbuy the other day and saw a samsung I believe that was only about an Inch thick, looked like a giant iphone heh.

I see they have plasmas in the 58"-70" range that look sick, I just paid strong for my last 2 and watched them crash in price months later. So this time I am asking for help!

if you dont want to lose value just find the cheapest one out there. any new technology you're going to lose instant value. i usually just buy the large but cheap ones and upgrade every few years.

I bought a Pioneer recently which I think most people considered top of the Plasma game, but then they got out of the biz.

Panasonic would have been my 2nd choice. Samsung if you prefer an LCD.

I went with the Panasonic Viera Plasma 65" loved it games, DVD's all looked just great had it for a year but sold it with the house when I moved.

I have an LG and a Samsung plasma now but the Panasonic had a better picture.

plasma has much brighter and more living colors than LCD.
Get some of the newer generation Plasma TVs ... they will not have as much problems with "burn ins" into the screen - which have been quite dangerous to my Plasma TVs ...

I won't buy a plasma again... and LCD's are just expensive. I have a Mitsubishi 60" DLP and I love it. It is thicker than an LCD and Plasma, of course... but you get an awesome picture for half the price and the replacement lamps for the Mitsubishi are only $99 (compared to $199-299 on some other brands).

These are pretty cheap at HHGREG. I bought mine for a little over a grand when they were running a 20% off sale.

very stylish room you have there

I seriously need to get an interior decorator to make me lose half of my furniture and replace it with things that go well together. Every time I got something new it didn't match the rest, lol

I got the Phillips because I'm all about the ambilight.

Seriously the ambilight is slick as hell, I've had it probably 2 years and I haven't had a single prob with it yet.

The only complaint I have is I'm always paranoid of burning an impression into the plasma.. haven't had any issues with it yet but I'm always uptight about it. Something you don't have to stress over with an LCD.

Plasma and LCD are going the way of the dinosaur. Check the new ultra-slim LED tv's like this one from Samsung.

I have been, just wondering about these, Brand new still, so could be lots of problems nobody knows about down the road + the price is going to plummet like everything else.

I have a phillips ambilight currently, it's a great tv and the back lighting really ads to the atmosphere. The only problem i've had with that tv is that sometimes the bottom half just goes black. Very rare, but if you tap the tv, it fixes it.

I have had a 52" Panaosonic Plasma for the past 3-4 years and love it. However I don't think Plasma is the way to go anymore. What you should consider instead are the LED flat screens. They run COLD, Look great, are much faster (120Hz and 240 Hz instead of 60hz), have much deeper blacks and contrast rations (3 Million to 1 or some crazy thing), and support 3-D !

The current LED TV's have LED's around the edges for light, but the NEW NEW LED TV's will be back-lit and have individual LED's for each LCD Pixel. This gives you perfect black of course, but also perfectly black on a per-pixel basis instead of the current "average" black areas. I dougt anyone would notice the difference though.

Here in Canada, LED TV's go for about $2800 for 48".

I have returned, Today I picked up the 55" samsung LED tv with the 3 million aspect ratio or whatever. Looks pretty sweet, it gets delivered on Thursday, so i can update then.

Then I ended up buying another tv also.

They had some crazy special for memorial day, only 1 tv left at the bestbuy I was at, but I got this thing for only 499. Guess I was in the right place/right time. You know you got a good deal when the bestbuy staff are offering you money to not buy it, so they can ;)

Plasmas suck. It's like looking through a glass window to see the tv image behind the glass. With LCD HDTVs the tv image is immediately in front on the outside surface of the tv, crisp and clear. No comparison. I have a Sharp Aquos 52" LCD HDTV and I love it. Those new LED tvs look nice too. Let us know how you like your new tv, Pipecrew.

LCD is better for most applications. Plasma that I had exhibited major "ghosting"

For instance the gun & health meter from the game you were just playing appears on top of the movie you are now watching.

Isn't Plasma just about dead? Why buy an over the hill tech? Hopefully not so you can feel like a pimp when you say "yo, look at my plasma!".

They're heavy as fuck, suck way more power than the other types and you can get burn-in. What's to like about it?

You're not supposed to carry it around with you, and if you can afford a big tv is the electric bill really an issue?

You can get burn in f you leave a static image on the screen for days (like an idiot) but there is really no risk of that happening with regular use.

i think u live down here in fl is on not mistaken

my 2cents is do not buy plasma buy lcd

plasma's are way more sensitive to the constant power surges we get down here

go to any tv repair shop and its like 4-1 plasmas there from power surges

sony bravia has a sweeeeet 52 120hz lcd on sale at best buy and sears for 2k

I have a Panasonic 42 inch and a Vizio 50 inch,

both of them are clear as hell and I have been through a few. Ultimately I would choose a Panasonic, but in terms of pricing per inches and quality Vizio reigns supreme.

Either way you go, make sure to get the extended warranty
