He added that roughly half the tickets to every game would be available for $50 in an effort to make the game more affordable for fans.

damn nhl tickets are expensive if 50$ is cheap

Looks like more of a pipe dream then anything else.

Lame. No one wants to play for a NHL team that is the little brother of another team

I don't want another team in Ontario.

Fuck... give Winnipeg their team back. Or Quebec City even.

I hate names like Thunder, Heat, Storm, Lightning...
Team names should always be plural.

what a bunch of clowns - the NHL doesn't like being pushed around. NHL is a private business and decides who gets a franchise and where. Toronto Maple Leafs own the rights to their territory and there's not a court in the US or Canada who would side with Jim Balsillie or these clowns.

this is like somebody calling a press conference to announce they're building a new super McDonalds restaurant down the street from an existing McDonalds without asking McDonalds.

you can bet if there ever is another NHL franchise awarded to Toronto by the NHL it won't go to either Balsillie or anybody who's part of this group.

That's not entirely true. Balsillie isn't infinging directly on Toronto's territory. Granted that it is closer than Ottawa, however the Leafs will feel ZERO impact by it. And this 'Legacy' team is just a 'proposal', not a push around. The only market it may affect is the Sabres, but they've been hurting for a long time - Buffalo hasn't been a viable market for years now.

Bettman needs to step down - he is a disgrace to the commissioner throne now. To stand against Balsillie for the third time now, and tell the courts that Phoenix is a viable market is a fucking joke. They haven't made profit since being there.
If this was reversed, and it was a Canadian team to be relocated to the US, he'd be all over it like DWB on an Asian School Girl

Don't get me wrong, Bettman has done some good for the NHL, but he has done much wrong to it as well. He oversaw the Minnesota North Stars go to Dallas, and now Minnesota has a team again. FAIL. He's overseen the Winnipeg Jets go to Phoenix and FAIL. He approved a Nashville expansion team which the market has not proven to be good, and its still up in the air if this team will be in Nashville for much longer.

Why should it always be plural. By the way Lightning is the plural of Lightning.

So you hate these NHL teams

Lightning
Wild
Avalanche

Not sure if you're into college sports but here you go.

Standford Cardinal
Alabama Crimson Tide
Tulan Green Wave
Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Syracuse Orange
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
North Carolina State Wolfpack
Marshall Thundering Herd

Just to name a few

I just hate names that are not plural.

As a matter of fact, I don't care much for the Tide and despise the Irish -
both the teams and the names. Not that it makes a shit.

Stanford and Syracuse changed their names to be PC.

I like to think Balsillie and Hamilton still have a shot at bringing the Coyotes to southern Ontario.

I live halfway between Toronto and Buffalo - and since passports are now required as of last Monday to cross into the U.S., I won't be drivin' over the border anytime soon to see a Buffalo game.

And Toronto just keeps losing and losing year after year...so there's no desire to pay exorbitant prices to see those losers.

As for this ridiculous 'Toronto Legacy' proposal - Mutt hit it on the head with the McDonald's analogy. They hadn't even contacted the NHL prior to the media release. Actually I think the timing of it smells of a smoke screen in an effort to undermine Balsillie's efforts somehow.
