I have my garden fenced off from rodents and stuff but theres no way to build a net over the entire garden to keep birds out, its too big. I have rows of vegetables growing and leave near wooded areas, birds and things are dominant in this area. Some of my tomatoe plants were 6 feet last year (creole tomatoes grow very tall) no way to net it off with chicken wire...

Down here in the swamps theres so many insects, the birds are very plentiful. I guess they getting fat off my tomatoes too lol

anyhoo, i am leaning more towards scarecrow,... ill make it Jack Skellington like though, not the traditional one lol

Ill add, unexpectedly, had somethingeat some of my habaneros off the vine too!!!

I was literally out there two days ago, and was like, well "at least nothing will eat these hot ass habaneros" low and behold, next day some were missing.

Its crazy, but these things down here eat everything, cant wait to garden back in Cali, perhaps less attackers lol

i am losing the battle here for sure... i never thought theyd take habaneros and eat em, but they did... crazy little things

It's not birds that we have a prob with, it's squirrels. They run down the screen on the sunroom and then cannon ball into the garden.

The deer are giving me endless headaches. There is no stopping them - every kind of fence and deterrent is eventually useless against them.

Also, a racoon is eating all my strawberries and bird seed. Bastards!

The birds can be a PIA, guy down the street uses CDs hanging from fishing line, they blow and turn with the lightest breeze. He is an old man, said they work great. We don't have trouble with the birds so much, last fall they were being a bit of a pain but they only messed up a few tomatoes, considering we had 27 plants last year of different varieties it was not enough to matter really.

About the Deer..... human hair, just take the hair from your hair brush or visit a local barber shop and get some hair, spread it around where you want to keep the deer away from or hang it on the plants, shrubs or trees. Another option to keep deer away is human urine, Bamby simply don't like us human types. Not suggesting you piss on your veggie garden. The Deer thing might not work I guess in some areas, urban deer I expect are subjected to humans more than rural deer. Not a bad industry built around getting rid of the human smell for hunters.

I like the CD idea, i am willing to try anything. Shit I got fake bumblebee nests up to keep wasps away, might as well try CDs or something to keep birds away lol

I guess I should add, I am trying to go organic, which is why I dont use pesticides and traps. We got caterpillars and grasshoppers and june bugs cralwing every night too lol but i refuse to spray my garden with pesticides...

Get one of those fake owls or inflatable falcons, they should stay clear for the most part. OR get a cat.

Go with the cd idea. My uncle has a sailboat, and when he is off the boat for a while he hangs cd's from the rigging. It keeps the birds from shitting all over the boat.
