Man music sucks ass today...

I haven't heard anything that has come out recently that I like. Listening to the radio is pretty much torture for me. Anybody else find today's music trash? Got anything I should check out?

So true.

Billy Bob Thornton was on Bill Maher last week. He was talking about some discussion he was having with a chick, and how music sucks ass. He had said something to the effect of, "name 100 bands from the 80's on, who will be remembered 100 years from now".

The chick tried and only had come up with a dozen. Most of the one's she was naming started in the 70's or earlier.

Can't agree, musical tastes and variety changes so frequently, today's crap will be tomorrow's gold and vice versa. While I still prefer the music I listened to in high school (orange county thirdwave ska/punk days) I can see merit in today's artists.

Tried to see Tim Burgess in concert a couple years back but he cancelled last minute. He was opening for another band.

Yea I like them too. They have a cool sound. Us and Us Only is a great album. They'll be in Toronto Sept 23 at the Mod Club. I'll be there.

Lots more musical niches these days...

In the old days one big TV appearance and you'd blow up.

Impossible to replicate nowadays, however good your music

i like the caged elephant song they've been playing on the radio lately but mostly, yes big business bullshit. it all sucks. good music is out there but it gets little to no exposure so its not so easy to find unless you have a shitload of time to waste looking for it.

I have been feeling the same way about music. Just blah for me lately... But, I have been listening to MGMT, which I like, has an electric type feel and Benji Hughes (Lives in my hometown, met and hung out with the group for many years prior) who blew up recently after being on Jimmy Kimmel etc. Really good music.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=PxeZzmEuDMk - from a bar called Snug Harbor, sound quality is bad, but the music is good. The song is called Tight tee shirt.

I like Pandora for finding new music, I like that I can just type in a band that I like / or song and it will play songs musically similar to what I already like, then I bookmark the songs and check out what else they have.

But I am still into some 80's gold stuff too, so what do i know!

The only thing i've heard lately that even warrented a good listen was Seether covering "Carless Whisper" I really did enjoy that.

Other then that, I stick with stuff you mostly dont hear on the radio, Isis, Slayer, and pre-black album Metallica.

Plus the Beatles, Pink Floyd and the Doors, cause those bands kicked mega-ass.

People need to turn off the shitty ass corporate radio stations and start looking for music else where. Theres tons of great music being put out lately that's just not played on the radio.

Here is some stuff i've been listening too lately:

Okkervil River
Cursive
Pinback
The Black Keys
The Helio Sequence
He Is Legend
Underoath
Death From Above 1979
The Delta Spirit

The sad part is, most of the bands that are putting out good songs and albums today are 90's and 80's bands. Seems most groups are a bunch of one hit wonders anymore, I mean yea there is a good song here and there but they just don't put out entire albums that are good.

If you're not listening to satellite radio or internet radio that is part of the problem, sure there is plenty of bubble gum pop trash that is released and its played on over the air radio but if you dig a little you might be surprised to find there are some decent acts out there

There are some new bands out there that I listen to, just having a little trouble scraping up the names.

Interpol is good, Black Heart Procession, TV on the Radio, the Liars, King Kahn and the Shrines,

There are def new bands out there making good music, but I can't really think of many that toally blow my doors off / stay in heavy rotation.

Solution: Find a good classic rock station and then glue the tuner knob to it.

I do listen to newer stuff sometimes, but it's getting harder and harder to find anything worth listening to. Today's rock has way too many cookiemonster sounding lead singers for one thing. Just about everytime I switch over to one of the stations either online or on the radio that plays newer rock I hear nothing but "rawr grawr growl rawwr"... man that ain't singing. It's about as painful to listen to as rap.

Like Crockett said, there are still a lot of classic rock bands around that are still putting out new songs, so it's not as if you won't be getting anything new to hear. But I do love my classics. Listening to some old Moody Blues right now, ahhhh. Looks like Hendrix, Jeff Healey, and some fine old April wine are coming up on the playlist after that. Again, ahhhh :D

Well I never really listen to radio , but when I do turn in on it's like turn this shit off and head back to the classic q107 60-70s rock channel lol. As for trying to find new music I don't really have time. Checking out some of the suggestions here so keep them coming

regular radio is only good for talk shows, not music

if you want at least a chance at some good music you should get sirius, but even then it is hit or miss, but it is worth it

Well, you know you can listen to radio online, right?

Try this station, it's what I listen to pretty much every day: http://www.92citifm.ca/home/ Click the "listen live" button on the right. Best weekday morning show on the planet.

Or you can go channel surfing, there are stations from all over at these sites:
