![]() Alright, so my little puppy was out at my grand parents farm with me last night, and they have an outside English Sheppard dog that is starting to go in heat, normally she's kind of a bitch because she's territorial, but the first time they met, she growled at me because she liked Buddy and didn't want me to take him away from her.
So I was kind of watching him to make sure he wouldn't do anything to piss her off, figure let them get to know each other better, well, apparently her being in heat makes her more of a bitch than any PMSing woman I ever met in my life, because he went running over to her a second time, she growled and he dropped rolled on his back and showed he was submissive to her and let her know he meant no harm.. But she still bit him, and got him good cutting his upper right eye lid... Scared the fucking piss out of me because when I finally caught him to see if he was ok, his eye was just filled with blood, I thought that she bit into his eyeball and popped it or something. So we got him cleaned up and found out she just cut his eyelid, and now it's swollen, the usual, but I noticed this morning when I was taking him outside that it's got a little infection looking puss coming out of it... Now normally I would just put peroxide on any cuts that I had infected or maybe on his side or something, but being it's RIGHT above his eye, I'm not really wanting to put it there... What do you suggest? Maybe just keep it cleaned with a warm damp rag, or is there something along the lines of peroxide I can put on it that isn't so harmful for his eye... like a tear free version such like they have for childrens shampoo? |

Fuck that DIY shit. Take the dog to the vet. Absolutely anything goes wrong with my Dog and he's straight to the vet. He's a healthy dog and only recently had 2 minor things with him but as soon as I saw it I was there with him.
Especially if its a puppy and not had all its jags yet. |

I just see vets like I see doctors, they are idiots. If they don't really know what they are doing, they are charging you retard prices to tell you stuff you already know, same with dentists. I went to the doctor once because I had ear infection... I get there thinking they can do something and give me something... The guy looked in my ear, said "yeah, you have ear infection" got up, took his gloves off, left the room, then 10 mins later his nurse came in and said I could leave... Got a bill for $150 in the mail... I don't want to take him to the vet and they say "just pat it with a warm damp rag" send me on my way, and then send me a bill for $600. |

i thought my dog had a conjunctivitis....i washed it out and it didn't get better.
my dogs go to the vet when things don't clear up fast enough for me. sure enough, he had sliced a layer of his cornea. all i did was hurt him more by assuming it was just an irritated eye.

Go with the no more tears shampoo, and dilute it a lot, soap is a good disinfectant.
why is this thread only for GFY veterans?? |

Clean it with some salt water, you can actually use a little polysporin on it as long as it's somewhere he can't reach with his tongue. He'll be fine ;)

Get a bottle of contact lens saline solution. Set the bottle in a pan of warm, not hot, water to warm it up before use (the same way you would warm a baby bottle). Twice a day stream the solution into the cut to clean it out. Use a cottonball or clean cotton cloth to wipe away any residue. If your puppy has fur that is getting into the wound, trim it. You can use a little Neosporin on it or if you are worried about him rubbing his eye with his paw and licking it off, use tee tree oil applied with a cotton swab. Make sure you check him over to see if he got any puncture wounds as well. Those do need to be treated by a Veterinarian since they are deeper than a cut and will have trapped bacteria.
If your puppy's eye is still looking infected (oozing puss, bad odor, angry red around the wound) in a couple of days, you might want to seriously consider getting him into the vet for some antibiotics. Normally a cut on a dog is not a big deal but, what concerns me is that it is so close to his eye. The last thing you want is for him to have the infection spread to his eye ![]() *I'm not a Veterinarian but, I play one on GFY. That and I used to be a Vet tech ![]() |
