'Free Content' is going to become seriously restricted throughout the EU soon. Europe is already taking some steps with the Rapidshare ruling, pirate bay ruling, comments about wanting greater influence over ICANN etc... Hopefully the US will follow the lead of others.

People who think 'nothing can be done' about P2P and content theft have no idea what happens when huge companies and governments decide they want to take action. My guess is we will end up with some horrible restrictions that are way too broad and overreaching, including things affecting hardware design, OS design and browser design in the not too distant future.

Billions or Trillions of dollars are being stolen and untaxed.
That will not be allowed to continue forever.

News sites say the have 10 days to comply.
Brein will have them blocked by the ISP's if needed I read somewhere also.

If this info hits the international press, more countries will do the same I assume.

The verdict is under appeal.

They are not the owners though, the website was sold 3 years ago to some bogus company. That is also why BREIN's lawsuit is meaningless, they won't comply they will simply refer to them not being the owners anymore.

Today, the verdict was made public and The Pirate Bay has lost the case. The judge ruled that The Pirate Bay has to stop all of their activities in The Netherlands within ten days. If they don’t comply all defendants will be ordered to pay 30,000 euros ($42,300) per day in penalties up to a maximum of 3 million euros ($4,231,000) total.

Pirate Bay spokesman Peter Sunde, who is also one of the defendants told TorrentFreak that they will appeal the decision, and that they are currently looking for legal representation.

Interestingly, the verdict claims that The Pirate Bay doesn’t have a registered owner, but holds the three accused responsible for it. However, as we’ve reported previously the site is in fact owned by a company called “Reservella” and not any of the defendants named in the case.

They will probably teach their surfers how to use proxies (if they haven't done it already) and won't be hurt.

always found their blue collar average joe image they presented quite funny - when the reality is they were a pretty sophisticated piracy organization who most likely bounced millions throughout the world via shell companies and offshore banks.

This is NOT a good ruling.

Yes, we all hate piracy. But even worse than piracy is having to conform to the laws of every country in the world with your sites.
