I am pretty sure this will be a mandatory teaching in all Texas schools. Not an elective. Either way it is pretty scary.

The report I heard stated that it will be an elective...but I guess when the fall semester starts...it will be positively known if it is an elective...or not.

Hopefully it will be of virtues taught by the bible and not just new testament "Jesus died for you, worship him" stuff. And yea, hopefully an elective vs. mandatory, but since it's Texas I wouldn't be surprised if many parents force their kids into taking it anyways.

You cant force religion on people in the country, not even in Texas.

Well...some parents may very well do that...but some parents already do that...in that they force their children to take bible study at local churches. I really don't have a problem with it being an elective at school...other than I do not see any need for it to be an elective in any school...as virtually every community has more than one church that has bible study classes...so why should tax payer dollars be used for something that is freely available.

Hopefully it will be an elective. Like others said you can't pressure religion on people.

* It should not be in our schools though...it should be held only outside of them.

ummmmmmmmmmmmm ok

It shouldn't be an elective in a public school supported by taxpayer funds, unless there's also a Torah elective, a Koran elective, a Buddhism elective, a Wiccan elective, etc.

And hey, how about an Atheist elective? Though that would only need to be a 2 minute long class.

Why would they not have a right to complain? What does an elective have to do with "musim extremists"?

@ all the people for the health care bill against this. I thought big government is better government! I thought it was ok to take tax payer money to fund things other people disagree with? I thought it was ok to force people to do things against their will using the power of the state?

(I do not think it should be in our public schools)

Educate me and point out where in the constitution it states that either are unconstitutional?

Right. Because local state government is the same as the federal government

wow. why cant someone be allowed to support one government program and be against another? like i can support the military but not believe in the current use of it.

i do have issue with the schools and religion but i have given up on that awhile ago. to damn many people in this country are mentally ill and fall into this. one can not win this battle when more than three quarters believe in jesus and the bible, lots take the bible as literary fact a good 70-80 percent also believe in angels and almost a quarter actually think the sun revolves around the earth.
then to make things worse you have so called atheists who will say they have seen paranormal activities such as ghosts or haunting.

If parents want their kids to learn about the Bible, here's a crazy idea. TAKE THEM TO CHURCH.
