Building my dream PC for editing.

I purchase this new bundle after doing research and seeing what other video gurus were using. My new editing system should smoke most other systems in this price range. Here is what the bundle consists of. The motherboard and CPU have been tested and perform amazing speed and efficiency for ADOBE CS4 products and other demanding applications for multimedia.

Here is a descriptions whats in the bundle.

Capture this ASUS P6T Intel X58 barebone kit and unleash its power for the best gaming and multimedia performance you have even seen! The NZXT gaming case with plenty of room for future additions and the baddest video cards on the planet. All the power you need for this kit and a couple of optional video cards will be available from the Corsair 750 watt SLI-ready power supply. The Asus mobo has system bus speed of up to 6.4GT/s. The three PCI-Express 2.0 slots operate at x16/x16/x4 to take full advantage of either 2 or 3 graphics cards, allowing up to four GPUs to be used for maximum graphics performance. The Intel Core i7 920 processor has an integrated memory controller and supports Triple Channel DDR3 Memory allowing for more maximum memory capacity and performance than previous CPUs. Six memory sticks of Corsair XMS3 PC12800 1600MHz DDR3 memory designed for X58 chipsets give you a total of 12GB of RAM!

Looks good but, just one hard drive?

Think about having a separate drive for os and all your apps.

Just compared prices at CyberPowerPC.
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_IV/

I would add a dedicated 7200 RPM hard drive for DV and HDV editing; striped disk array storage (RAID 0) for HD. - recommended by Adobe

Get two Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black Hard Drive 1TB and use them in a raid 0 configuration. Don't make this your boot drive. This raid 0 will deliver the best performance for video editing.

The Seagate Barracuda will die in about six month with heavy use so always back up.

Here is all the info you need about raid configuration from ASUS message board.

You chose a low end CPU, and only one. I would have gone with a high end quad core and put two of them in there.

i7 is quad core and certainly not low end. anyone that edits video knows how well the i7 performs in this capacity.

that being said, the price for this config is high.

Good selections...

I have 3 rigs built with those specs. If you want some help overclocking, let me know.

Also, you should raid 2 Velociraptors for editing.

You can overclock the i7 920 easily with the ASUS P6T.

I reach core speeds of 3.4

I've got almost the same system... except mine only has a 1.0 TB drive and I have two nVidia 9800gt video cards. I'm about to add a third card, so I can SLI two of them for my main monitor, and have the third one run my other two monitors (I run 3 monitors).

12gigs of fast ram on Vista Ultimate 64 is very nice.

you must do some serious editing..

i just use two pc's with one set keyboard/mouse and a switch, then one can be busy processing images or video whilst i do different work on the other machine.
worked well for me for years now.

CompUSA is now part of Systemax. I've found their prices to be fair compared to what the old CompUSA had things priced at in their stores.

That should be for backing up the 1.5 TB of content you have on the other drive. Get a fast drive with nothing on it but the os and editing apps.

This is what I run on my mac and it's great.

* One small fast barracuda drive for os and apps. (15,000 rpm)
* One small fast barracuda drive for current project. "
* One 1.5 tb drive for content.
* One 1.5 tb drive for backup.
