For years my cell has been my only phone. NOW....I kind of need one, but the stupid thing is that I'm only home about 10 days out of the month, I hear the buzz about Vonage, SKYPE for home, etc.

IS there a service where you only pay by usage and not monthly? I know you can make PC to PC/phone calls using skype online but I need a hard-line into my place but really don't relish wasting money (even though cheap) on something that will not be used frequently.

really don't know what to suggest. I use vonage but if you'll only use the phone 10 days a month not sure its really what you're looking for

Get a magicjack, they have a deal right now that you pay 59 bucks for 5 years of service. Unlimited local and long distance etc. Nice service. I have it running on one of my macs I leave on the time and have a cordless base station plugged into it with 4 handsets. Works like a charm.

I also have skype, that I use to call out using my headset in my office. something like 20 bucks a year, and even though I like it, I'll be dropping it since getting the magicjack
