Yahoo's plan to launch Facebook-type features finally takes off

18 months and one CEO after this announcement http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/01/08...an-yahoo-life/ , Yahoo finally gets it together and launches Facebook-type features http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2009/08/...l-more-social/

This might mean new traffic/promotions possibilities for webmasters
Among a host of changes to Yahoo’s online services, Yahoo said its main mail homepage will now feature updates on what the folks in your address book are sharing about themselves online – including status updates they’ve posted, photos they’ve shared, and their birthdays. The new mail page will also show the most recent emails just from the people you select as your “connections” – Yahoo’s term for “friends.”

Yahoo Mail has gone to shit over the last couple of months. Used to be rock solid and now it's completely fucked.

There are too many chefs in the kitchen at the mega sites like Yahoo, AOL and MSN. Those services are just a big mess.

This will fail just like Yahoo's 360 service that was supposed to compete with MySpace.

Everything fell to pieces after they dropped the user created rooms. That disbanded a ton of longtime rooms and the users didn't make the move to the standard rooms. They just left.

If Yahoo were smart they would have taken the high traffic user created rooms and made similar room names for permanent use after the change. But there was no effort at all to keep chatters on board.

Then of course the spam bots filled the rooms up shortly after that and sealed the Yahoo Chat coffin.

AOL is actually still kicking ass and owns some big sites, just not focusing on the whole AOL brand much anymore.

besides mail, I won't use Yahoo for anything else....They're too fickle with what they're doing and will drop something and leave a user stranded with no notice....They're like the ARS of mainstream.

And this is coming from someone who built his business from yahoo clubs/groups WAY back in the day....

I'm sure they will wrap it up with a gazillion banner ads and text ads so you can't figure out what to click.

Talking about Yahoo Chat, it's sad that certain social sites don't make any money while people advertising on them (for free) make tons of money? Why don't the sites study what's going on and monetize so they can stay alive? Yahoo is going to stay alive. I'm talking about the ones that didn't make it--like collegeclub.com, etc.

Case in point . . . yahoo briefcase. I mean, it was just storage. There was literally NO REASON for them to shut that service down. But they did.

A friend of a friend create a bot that was so realistic. The bot even had the webcam re-playing a fake video. The users fell in love with the bots and had relationships. If the bot didn't understand a question, it would respond back with something generic until a human can answer it.

Yahoo today is so bloated. The content is too controlled and its becoming a relic.

Have you see the new profiles for Yahoo? The profile suck ass.

I agree, and if they want to have success they need to inject a lot of money on promotion
How come they want to start being agressive when they promote facebook in their portal page? I find Google Wave (coming very soon) with more potential

They should hire the webmasters who pimp their differing sections as CONSULTANTS on how to turn Yahoo into the BANK that it really is.

I still do. It is HANDS DOWN the #1 way to mack on Filipina bitches and get their panties wet and pussies spread open for you. Spend a little time on the faithful "YM" before your trip to the Flip isles and you'll have a menu of 10 or 20 honies to choose from when you land. Well, that's how I roll anyway.
