![]() I usually like Manischewitz for that late evening, tv watching buzz. I been trying to find a bottle of their Cherry wine; but, they don't distribute it here in Austin. The Blackberry will do in a pinch...
Anybody got any good suggestions for a substitute. Please, no Ripple, MD, or Boones Farm. I want quality at a $5 price. Thanks, ![]() |

2 buck chuck doesn't taste that great. I always thought of Yellow Tail as a good cheap wine, but it's around $10/bottle

Red red wine... Red wine is good. Pick a cheap one if needed.

Good & Cheap don't usually go together.

I use 2 buck chuck to make sangria. With enough sugar and fruit in there it's perfect.

GOOD / CHEAP when it comes to wine, depending on your taste of course, these 2 words don't usually fit together ... It also depends on where you live, here in Quebec, the SAQ (gov controled alcool stores) rip us off with high prices on wines and booze... |

In the $5 range, you'll find better wine connoisseurs underneath just about any freeway overpass. Just look for the valet in dirty, shabby clothes

Wine is a bit of an exception when it comes to that rule.
While truly good wines will often cost quite a bit, wines in the <$15 price range fairly often beat those in the $15-50 range when tested blindly by experts. A good example is champagne. Moët et Chandon, around $30 per bottle, consistently finishes dead last in taste tests for affordable champagne - usually even behind the <$10 fake champagnes (which, on the other hand, regularly win). There are lots of good inexpensive wines, as well as lots of disgusting higher-priced ones. Price definitely does not guarantee quality.

the australian winery, lindemans, offers an enjoyable, lower-priced wine.
the bin 40 merlot and the bin 45 cab are ~ $5-6 at safeway/vons. we always start with a nicer wine and then move to the lindemans for the 2, 3, 4th bottle. |

I'll usually turn a cheap red into sangria.
Keel and Curley do some nice blueberry wines for I want to say $13 or so a bottle. ![]() I reccomend the dry. It's not sweet at all, just a solid wine doesn't taste cheap and can stand up by itself. |
