Suggestions For Anti-Virus Software?

Got a new computer. Came with Norton but it's bugging me. I had Avast on my old computer. Probably going to go get Avast but thought I'd ask any gurus to chime in with any product recommendations.

Thank you in advance.

Let me know if there's any thing I can do to help you as well.

Steve

Kaspersky the only virus scanner you can trust to remove a virus and not just tell you that you have one.

free - AVG or maybe new free Panda Cloud
paid - NOD32 (speed) or Kaspersky (slow but tough)

You can get and read about them all in one place at

I have just started using Avast from Comodo.

If I were going to pay I would go with NOD32.

If this were 2008, I'd say NOD32 or Kasperski. But now I'd have to say Norton 360 3.0, which pretty much blows everything else out of the water for speed.

I'm far from a tech guru, but the ones I've talked to have recommended Trend Micro Internet Security. When I had a pc it worked well for me and I have it installed on my wife's machine.

Kaspersky is fantastic when it comes to paid.
Good alternatives are Trend(love you Trend), Avast(eh) and Nod32.

I suggest having one with an active shield/constant protection, and also having another that you run as a backup only ever so often.

Try Eset Smart Security 4 (it's a firewall, antivirus, antispyware and antispam in one.
It was developed from NOD32 and I've been using it for 3 years, great product, never had a problem. Main advantage is it comes as bundle, so there are no firewall-antivirus conflicts. Quick, easy to use, and takes minimal system resources.

I wouldn't rely on free products unless you can afford loosing time and reinstalling the whole system. Well look at Virus Bulletin results, ESET products are rated among the best. Good option is also Kaspersky from what I heard, but I have no experiences. As for Norton..... it's TERRIBLE. Used ii for a year, it's HUGE, takes resources so it slows down computer.
