You can shoot great porn on a mobile phone and shit porn on a $20,000 camera.

Depends on your niche and style is the real answer.

I shoot stills with a Canon 40D for web stills and a canon 5DmkII if client is going to print DVD box covers, posters ect.

I shoot with a SONY PMW EX1 for full HD video 1920x1080p at 30p , or 24p if i need.

The great thing about the SONY is i can downvert the HD file to SD to a clients needs if they are not up with HD formats.

Stills:
1- Canon 5D MkII
1- Canon 40D

Video:
1- Sony PMW EX1 HD
1- JVC HDR7 3CCD HD for POV video

i think it depends by your budget and your level of expertise, no point in getting a PRO camera if you have no clue how to shoot in manual.

my suggestions.

good camera, good value for money, good for beginners > nikon d60
good value for money, medium level users > nikon d90
upper level photography and features > nikon d300

Were using Nikon D100, still got it as back up camera.
But using Cannon D20. Become favorite because I can shoot raw and jpg format in the same time, useful if you sell to magazine, but I think the newer Nikon can do that as well.

the best cameras in the world wont help you if you dont know how to use them or light what you are shooting. I can out shoot most most shooters with my Black Berry phone. Most people do a piss poor job of shooting stills and video, because of bad lighting skills.

Lighting is that important!!

Why would you say something like that?? I would love to see you out shoot me shooting sports, or a girl running to you or being playful with your cell phone.

I do agree with you that a lot of people don't have great lighting skills , but light will always be a learning curve , even for those who are considered masters. Every situation is different.

However pro cameras allow you to manipulate to every situation better.

What Dave said (and he knows his shit).

I shoot with a Nikon D80 and got a 18-200 VR lens for it. It's a decent versatile lens that won't break the bank but gives good results.

Most importantly, I've learned to somewhat learn the camera and shoot everything on Manual so I can adjust and shoot exactly what I need.

Learn about exposure. Learn about white balance. Learn about lighting. Learn about framing and over all, learn how to pose models and deal with them.

I'm no photo pro by any means. I'm actually pretty novice BUT I make a damn good living with my basic skills, booked solid and never have to go looking for work, and that's all that matters. Just a little bit of knowledge and know-how will take you a looooong way.

With all that said, ANY CAMERA will do the job if you know how to use it.

Nikon D2X... Love this camera. Had it since it first came out, have no reason to upgrade, does everything well. Have a bag full of lens but for everyday shooting I really like the 18-200mm VR Lens. Second favorite lens is my Sigma 30mm 1.4 (closes to 50mm your going to get with the sensor mag) and third favorite is the Nikkor 105mm 2.8 AF Micro. (Wish I had the VR version but this lens still rocks for super close-ups)

Why would i say that?? hmmmm? people get so concerned with the best gear or what other people have that they loose focus on what they are trying to accomplish or what they are doing.

And if you take what i post as a personal insult then you must fall into that not knowing how to light category.

Since when did you start lighting sports???? We were talking about lighting skills v. Camera gear. Since when did GFY become a sports BB???

I am just a wanna be photographer making a decent living from just shooting nekkid girls.

Anyone with an eye can figure out exactly how a photo was shot. I shoot girls out in public running around a lot like sports!

Lets see, I find a nice area that has a good shade, with a warm reflective wall that bounces sun light onto my subject, no fill flash, no strobes just all natural light and I
get next to perfect exposures and white balance. First, I use the Digital calibration White balance target to achieve proper white balance, then I let the girl go and I shoot shoot shoot.

So having a 5DMKII with the ultimate lens 70-200mm 2.8L IS makes this all possible
you will not get the same quality results with a cell phone, or less equipment.
If your nekkid gurl is running at you fast , you will need a lenses that communicates with your camera body to track focus.
If the girl is running horizontally, you will need a lenses that has an image stabilizer.

If it was true that one does NOT need this type of gear, the Nikon and Canon should not make Image stabilizer lenses.

See, I shoot indoors with strobes, I shoot public fun nudity where a girl is in fast motion, I shoot many different situations, that require professional gear.
Again As I said before , every situation is different.

I can set up three lights to shoot normal indoor porn, Main light, fill, and back hair light, with black boards to create contrast and depth. Very simple.

Take your girl out downtown and have run around and get great sexy , fun porn type shots with all natural light.

You can shoot porn on any camera. Once you get into it, you will feel the restrictions of an entry level camera, though.
So ask yourself the question: are you into it for the long run?

If the answer is yes, you should at least get a camera with a full-frame sensor.
Everything else will not let you use fisheye lenses and other lenses to their full potential.

We shoot with Canon 1ds mkIII's if they're hot. If they're less hot or we're just feeling lazy then it's a 5d MkII day - The assistants now use mk II or mk III as a question, meaning is she hot or not!

I've tried other cameras, but stick with Canon for a couple of reasons. Firstly I have a lot of lenses already, so duplicating the lot in Nikon would be a PITA. Secondly, I like the look of Canon images - the colours are warmer and just more flattering - if not 100% realistic, but hey, if surfers want realistic there's always the wife.

70-200 2.8 IS is a great lens but it's also big, heavy and expensive, the 70-200 f4 IS is half the price, half the weight and in real life f2.8 hardly ever gets used so is no great loss. At f8 - f16 you simply won't see a difference in the shots. The 24-105 f4 IS is what I use 99% of the time indoors anyway, the 70-200 is just too long in a bedroom.

Don't skimp on lenses! L series are sharper, more contrasty and give better saturation plus they focus a lot faster.
