Shit fuck, my main workstation burned yesterday night :(

Oh well, fuck. The motherboard, hdd's and processor is toast. Lost like 6 month worth of emails and passwords etc. I should learn to back-up more often.

Pisses me off though since I bought the stuff 6 months ago

That sucks man and I feel your pain. I thought I was being safe one time by having 2 HD's in the same system and I'd back everything up to the second HD. Well I never thought about the fact that my power supply might go bad and fry everything.

Needless to say I wasn't happy..

I used to do the same, backup drives as a separate RAID array but in the same machine and off the same PSU. Now backup drives sit in a different machine, and also get regularly rotated offsite in the event of a disaster.

I have phoned the place I bought the stuff from but they don't give warranty to systems that you build your self They say I have to go to the manufacturer of the power supply and I might get a new of those LOL

Sucks, sorry to here.

After losing stuff in the past I am extra cautious now.

Main system is RAID, everything important to me is backed up to an external RAID every 4 hours, and the external RAID is backed up offsite too, every 3-4 days.

I got a UPS as well to eliminate problems with mains line spikes, power dips etc.

It's all quite cheap to do and well worth the money spent.

Not trying to rub it in, just saying, I've been there and bought the t-shirt.

Meaning I have two sets of backup drives which are swapped regularly between the office and another physical location. At the office they're "live" and inside a PC ready to accept the latest data, at the other loc they're just stored.

I'm considering a third set inside a safe deposit box, maybe that's going too far, but it would be nice to have an excuse to have to go into the city every couple of weeks.

Sorry to hear that Nicky, that truly sucks. In the future it might be wise to grab a 1TB external. Mine backs up every morning at 4am automatically.

maybe the manufacturer's warranty will replace it. or maybe they won't, but it's worth a try.

the store won't cover shit, unless you get their protection plan.
