Got Surewest FIOS today!

Previously was on AT&T DSL... the Surewest fiber connection rocks bigtime. It's not a night-and-day difference with downloads, but it's snappy as fuck with surfing and normal load times, viewing images, etc.

I can now view YouTube HD without any problems. Previously it would stutter and buffer constantly.

dsl to fiber and it's not much difference? where are you located?

Verizon FIOS stomps Comcast Cable here, and Comcast kills any DSL around here. Friends of mine on FIOS are getting double the downstream and up at least over my cable.

Well it seems to have gotten quicker since the installation guy was here. I just tried fetching a Fedora linux ISO and I got 737kbps. Pretty quick. With the AT&T DSL, it went around 180kbps.

But I know people with Comcast who are doing 1000kbps, so I'm not as impressed as I think I should be.

We're still with Comcast for television because we use the Tivo HD which uses CableCards. The Surewest FIOS system is incompatible with CableCards due to some difference in protocols.

I bow to you.

Max upload I have is 512 kilobits/sec, or about 64 kbytes/sec.

Looks like San Francisco may be the 1st hop, which would explain the crazy speed. Here's some from further away.
