moving to sdiego?

im thinking of jumping ship to san diego for a bit.. I am going to come check it out sometime in early december.. just wondering what you guys there think?

Basically i work online, so dont need online employment... Also i want somewhere near everything so its easy to make friends/meet people..

If possible living close/next to a beach would be nice.. Im willing to spend up to $2,500 a month on rent if its a nice place....

What do you guys think?

Pacific Beach = college kid bars. The Havasu of San Diego
Ocean Beach = more hippy, dirty, grungy, smelly... some people like that. The Haight District of San Diego
La Jolla = Beverly Hills of San Diego
North of La Jolla = more pure beach towns, settled down, still active beach areas but more peace and quiet

pb is about 5-15 depending on traffic and area from UCSD and USD and is 20 minutes to San Diego State.

Just south of LaJolla is Pacific Beach, then OB and Point Loma, then Downtown. UCSD is in La Jolla, USD is just on the other side of the 5 freeway from PB and SDSU is inland in La Mesa just off the 8 freeway which begins as Sunset Cliffs Blvd in OB

Have you ever been to SD? you kinda sound like me b4 I moved out here I was all "all I need is a 2-3 bedroom place on the beach w a backyard for my dog, that shouldn't be hard to find for $2000?" and everyone laughed at me

I don't think 2500 will get you a nice place, but it will get you a small 2bed/2bath condo down in SD!
It's sooo beautiful there but nothing like LA, everyone is soo chill and LAID BACK.. sometimes TOO LAID BACK.. no one there is in a hurry at all and they will call you "brah" and "dude" a lot I could see someone loosing their motivation to work hard every day and opt for becoming a stoner beach bum there really easy
The beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen and if I didn't have to drive up to LA 2x a week I would of def moved there already!
for $2500 you prob won't be able to live in La Jolla but it is so beautiful there, everyone there is young and hip and good looking..the restraunts are fucking amazing if you can find parking Too bad you won't be able to get the full San Diego experience until Spring/Summer if you aren't coming out till December!

yeah i know san diego is expensive, but at this point i really can afford to spend even $3k on rent alone... its no biggie.. im sure $10k a month will take care of rent, cable, insurance, and fun...

Sounds EXACTLY the same as it was long ago! As I was a NY/NJ transplant the pace was sooooo slow it was crazy! Within 6 months your motivation can easily drops like a rock in So Cal.

Vacationing there is great, but if you are used to a fast pace, with mentally alert peers, get ready for a big culture change!

I've been to cities in Europe, and I've even spent time in Australia, but San Diego was actually a bigger culture change to me, even though it is part of the US.

The NJ/NY area is very stressfull, but if you grew up here it is what you know, and what you are used to. I personally found San Diego to be beautiful, and an awesome place to vacation, but living there was weird. Sunny with blue skies every day can actually get old and boring fast, especially if you are used to 4 seasons.

It may be great for you however, so don't go by my experiences. When I was young everyone I knew wanted to move to California. It was just something everyone had to try out.

If you have the time and money, I suggest driving there, as the cross-country trip is fantastic!

I initially arrived in LA and hated it, as it didn't look anything like the Beach Boys vision I had in my head, so I headed south down the coast until I found somewhere that looked like my California dream.

When I got to Ocean Beach I was instantly surrounded by dune buggies, bikini babes, surfers, and pretty beaches, so that's where I stayed. Like almost every other NJ transplant I know however, I eventually moved back to stressland.

yeah I'd say SD is the opposite of a place like NY.. but that's DEF not a bad thing! But for someone like me that is always in a hurry and trying to get somewhere and do soemthing, I need to remind myself to take a deep breath and take in the sights around me and CHILL OUT when I'm standing in line at some store and the guy in front of me has been talking to the cashier about "the killer waves we surfed yesterday" for the last 10 mins and I'm trying to not get impatient hehe..

When I moved out to Cali, I landed in OC because I knew nothing of the difference between LA, Orange County and San Diego..I just knew I wanted to live in SoCal! now I know, they are 3 totally different worlds, and depending on what you want to do and the kind of people you want to surround yourself with, you should know the diff before you move out here hehe

and I didn't mean to discourage you with the $3000 a month, you def won't need 10k a month for all of your bills, but it was a HUGE shock to me when I moved out here and started paying $2500 for a 2bed 2 bath tiny little apartment when I was paying $1200 for a 4 bedroom 3 level house in Colorado..everything out here is fucking expensive!! Gas, groceries..you have to vallet park wherever you go..But ask anybody who lives here and they will tell you "it's worth it! Look around you!"

really? you don't like 70-80 degree sunny days every day? you missed scraping snow off of your car windsheild and wearing 5 layers of clothes? not me! Waking up to PERFECT WEATHER every single day is what keeps me out here

No offense, but I don't suggest it hehe I've done the trip 4 times and its BORING and LONG and you will have to drive thru a lot of snow n bad road conditions in December!

SD and socal in general... even though, for the most part people are nice, it's definitely not warm and welcoming like NorCal and the "coolness" bullshit can be annoying, especially downtown, PB and La Jolla. It's very transient too, nobody you will meet will be from San Diego which makes for an interesting dynamic but lots of people say it's difficult to make real long term friends. You can find plenty of full of shit, partyer friends here though and not hard to get laid by drunk shallow chicks. I suggest, show up, go nuts for like a year or 2 and then move.

I grew up in NYC and lived a few years in SD, from rancho san diego (el cajon) to clairemont, PB 2x and leucadia. San Diego is without a doubt the best place to live in the US. Trouble was when I lived there it was hard to make money. that is no longer true. The girls there are hot and the weather is great. at 24 PB or mission beach is the place to be, OB is an old bikers town, the rest of the spots have all different kinds. If you need to be near a school ucsd is right up the road from pb along the beach. sdsu is in a so so area and usd is mostly near downtown, lots of night life downtown but not much beach.

Ive been living in San Diego a little over 15 years and i've had enough, weather's great but thats about all. I miss the seasons, i miss a good Curry so im moving to somewhere cooler where i can buy 50 acres of land and not have to pay 26 million for it

LOLOL....been living in SD for almost eight years now, after spending my whole life on the East Coast, and never heard it put any better ;)

When I was first moving out here, I was talking to a woman on my flight who was about to move back to the Northeast - I asked why, and she said "I've put in my ten years." I didn't know what she meant then, but as I'm nearing ten years here, I do now. If you're a type-A "East Coast" person, the whole San Diego thing can wear off after a while...although 60-70 degree winters NEVER wear off
