Okay, so how's your biz doing, versus 1 year ago?

I remember last year this time it seemed like the sky was falling. But I'm definitely doing better a year later. Are you better off than last year? Worse? Same?

I want to say better.
The one you of course are asking about, which is the online adult business is down versus 1 year ago. Had a slight swing up last month.

Ah, that's very interesting! Does it mean that the only people reading this board who are better off than last year are the ones who've taken steps toward non-adult? Could be.

This week was actually my best week in probably 18 months.

What's different? Trying new products, putting more emphasis on products I've had good success with, wrapping up projects that were sitting and did nothing, and scaling/growing projects that work.

The trick is to keep a good thing going. Sometimes we let success get into our heads and we start slacking off. Instead, take the current high bar and make it your new low bar.

You're so right. If you don't lose your focus on optimization, then a downturn can be a very different experience -- perhaps even a positive.

My website opened exactly a year ago and although I had higher HOPES for how many members I would have by now my realistic EXPECTATIONS have been met and I've slowly but surely gained a small to medium amount of members every month.
I also hrt my back n had to take 12 weeks off starting in late August which basically ruined my whole year as far as $ is concerned..
So I'm happy with my progress but expecting bigger things for the next year

Excellent! The last 12 months was definitely as great time to START a business When you're busy starting-up, you're less distracted by all the bad news.

I'm in domains, not really adult just yet, but domainwise business definitely better now vs. a year ago. 2nd half of last year was pretty weak - 2nd half of this year has seen a rise in activity.

Yeah. I heard domains did well. It was a kind of a nice test for the whole industry to see that domains held or grew. I think there were also a LOT of transactions, which of course has been good for brokers, too.

Well don't get me wrong - when the economy tanked, domains surprisingly tanked just as badly. I figured there'd be a slight hit but I guess when people don't have as much money to spend, they don't want to fork out hundreds or more for a quality name vs. register what's available. It HAS seemed like domains started to recover before a lot of industries though, because strong domains are still vital to online business presence (or at least the most cost-effective expense to establish a strong online business presence), and amazingly enough, top sales seem to be close if not fully back to what they were pre-crash. One wonders where domains would be at if there wasn't such a problem with horrible ethics and basically lying and stealing amongst the larger domain companies *coughSNAPNAMEScough*. It's hard to be taken seriously when a bunch of "bros" run the industry.

I think it boils down to the fact that it's hard to make a bad purchase of a good domain. People launch shit at camgirls for spending what he did on that domain and doing nothing since, and I personally think he overpaid for it, but at worst he'll still have the domain and it will be gaining value over time better than most stocks or other investments and definitely better than if it was still sitting in a bank.

You said it, "strong domains". I think there was a real separation that happened between the domains that actually held value and all the others. On a related note, I was also surprised by the number of domains that were sold for stock in startups.

LOL exactly, I'm waaaay too busy trying to get this site to blow up to worry about bad news I try to not let bad news distract me anyways but sometimes it is an easy scape goat if you aren't careful! "Well I didn't do as many sign ups because of the bad economy/summer slump, etc.."
But I usually find I make as much as I work..the harder I work the more my webcam n my website pay off so I just keep on plugging away!
