Do your kids have hand me downs?

Was just thinking about getting hand-me-downs when I was a kid, and my brothers. I'm the oldest but there were always hand-me-downs from cousins, family friends, etc.

Do families still do a hand-me-downs or has our debt hungry/keeping up with the Jones' society eliminated a lot of that?

I'm sure some do but nowhere near as much as they used to. Parents want their kids to be "cool" and look good.

Yep. There's no point in throwing away good clothes just because they grew out of them.

I either give them to a friend / family member in need or donate them to Goodwill.

Yep. kids grow so fast clothes don't get wrecked.

Because where I live is warm, my kid wears a winter coat about 10 times, so I try to get it big so it does two years, buts still only 20 wears, When I had that down it's still new. His little friend gets a nice Timberland coat.

of course. As long as the clothes are still good, I don't see why not. I remember being very pleased as a kid after getting a nike sweater from my older cousin.

My mum worked her ass off to ensure we didn't need them, it wasn't a snobby thing, it was more a I'll show you thing. She had me at eighteen, so wanted to show the world she could cope and cope she did.

If the clothes are still nice with no stains, absolutely I pass them from my older daughter to my younger. If they aren't in perfect shape, have a little stain, or are the wrong season for the size of the youngest at the time, they get donated to charity.

I dont have children, but as the 5th son in my family, let me tell you that hand me downs suck.

I think I was 7 before I had something of my own. It was baseball time, and nobody in my family had ever been a catcher. So I begged my ass off and finally got a catchers mitt and face mask (that was it). I never used them on the team, I played third base and left field.

I just wanted something that was my own for once!

when my son was about 4 months old a friend of mine gave me a huge bag of hand-me-downs from her sons. There were over 100 outfits in there, some of them not even worn and with the tags still on. The rest were in great shape and barely worn.
I washed them all and my son wore them for months.

Personally I dont see anything wrong with wearing something from another healthy clean kid, if it's in perfect shape.

I wouldn't buy used clothes from a store though. Ya never know who blew his nose on the clothes or what adult cleaned his cum on them.

There's a joke in here somewhere about having "Hand-Me-Downs Syndrome".... but I think I'll leave it alone.
