Register Domains For 2 BUCKS

Think it could be a money maker ?

I have just enough money to invest to be able to offer domains at $2 each..

Just wondeirng if theres a market for it and would people move from the bigger registrars like namecheap and godaddy.

The core registries charge more than that you going to take a loss on each?

cheap domain registars aren't always the best...

I would not move away from NameCheap.com to another service even if domain price there would be $2 if the service would be worst than NameCheap's...
(I have ~350 domains)

you know that you need 70,000 USD in the bank just to be able to get accredited from ICANN? Plus a 2500 non-refundable application fee?

Plus servers, bandwidth, engineers, customer service employees, etc etc etc.

domaining is pretty cut-throat, it's definitely a volume business. Verisign charges something like 6.86 per .com you register, that's why you don't see domains for much cheaper than 7.50. That's less than a dollar per domain profit.

Yeah, but that's all you need to be able to 'taste'... and then the world is your oyster. Like a world of Sees Candy... you can taste all the flavors of the rainbow.

Newsflash, tasting has been abolished by ICANN as of earlier this year.

Also, you can buy an existing small registrar to fast-track yourself to an accreditation and not have to pay as much.

But yea, offering $2 domains is not a good idea considering the registry will charge you more than $7 apiece for them.

You used to be able to "taste" domains and delete them free. ICANN started a new policy in april 2009 where the 20 cent ICANN fee wasn't refunded. Now, if you have excessive domain tasting, they charge you the full 6.86.

domain tasting is basically dead and done with
