Should I get an BMW Extended Warranty

My 2008 535 now has 36'500 miles on it. I am the 2nd owner of the car. I cannot see me replacing the car this time next year when I expect I will hit the 50k miles mark and the factory warranty will expire.
I am doing about 15k miles a year in the car and overall I like it.

I am thinking about purchasing the extended bmw warranty on the car before my factory warranty expires and was wondering if anybody has any idea on what it will cost. I believe it is an item that bmw makes a large commission on so wanted to make sure I was not being ripped off.

thanks in advance.

I just bought a 2 year extended warranty on my M5. Cost like $2800 but it covers the car bumper to bumper... I can't get out of the BMW dealership with a minor repair less than $500 so i figured this was a good investment (especially if i blow the engine on a V10 LOL!).

Apparently the warranty is tranferable and you can cancel it at any time and get some of the money back.

Just my 2 cents

if you can buy the original BMW warranty then yes, other wise you can go to the company themselves and buy it and save yourself a few hundred bucks.

They wanted $2800 for a 3 year warranty through Guardian (i think thats the company) for my 7 series. I called them directly and can buy it for $2200.

I am thinking the same thing. Its either get rid of it prior to the original warranty expires or buy the bmw extended out to 100k miles. Not having a warranty on a bmw is crazy especially on the 535 which is known to have high pressure fuel pump problems on early cars...

Depends on what you plan do to with the car, I guess?
BMW are pretty solid. I would not get an extended warranty for it.

I was talking to my mechanic about this and here's what he said about his 535. "I bought one, had it for two days... and returned it. Fucking fuel pump was making so much noise it was ridiculous."

Thought he was sort of crazy. But maybe not...

Do it. Back in the day I worked at an Audi service center and I've seen my fair share of drama from people that didn't get the additional warranty.

If something breaks on a car like yours it will be expensive.
Something is more likely to break because the car is getting older.

Better be safe than sorry. It's money well spend for some piece of mind.
I addition the car will be easier to sell.

Good point.

German cars are damn expensive to fix, a fuel pump went in my volkswagon gulf a while back and it was close to $500 to replace. But I usually don't go with any extended warrantees, it is kind of a bad deal most of the time. Staples just tried to sell me a warrenty on a $68 dollar paper schredder.

Thanks for the input guys...
I think I will get one because nothing at bmw costs less than a $100.... The key alone is a few hundred...

Yep it was a know problem with the early 2008 models. Luckily mine is ok. The problem with the HPFP is covered under the original factory warranty... The problem has something to do with the twin turbo's putting too much pressure on the fuel pump from what I read...
