I've eaten at Tojo's several times (even made side trips from Seattle to Vancouver, just to have dinner there) - Tojo's truly is the best sushi in North America (and people that know me, know that I know sushi)...

The Omakase (Chef's Choice) special is to die for, and it doesn't hurt that my wife is Japanese, and speaks directly to the Chef.

Casper, you need to find a way to get invited or tag along (afterall, if it's a client dinner, so it's at least a partial tax write-off for the company).

Haven't been to either of those. Lumiere looks awesome though - my mouth was watering while viewing the menu (great website too).

I really enjoy fine dining...

In the past week I ate at:

Chaya (Japanese)

That was for my wife's birthday, which we followed by catching the new Cirque Du Soleil show, "OVO".

Epic Roasthouse (Great 28-day aged steakhouse with an awesome view of the Bay Bridge)

Blowfish Sushi (Japanese/Fusion)

I go there at least 2-3 times per month with clients.

YUM!!!

Next time that I am in Vancouver, we'll have to dine out together, first because we've never met, and second because you share my affinity for fine dining.

My treat (we do business together, so it's a write-off, LOL).

Bon apetit!!!

Ohh yes lumiere is excellent, Portions are small as they should be, but trust me you are stuffed when leaving...its almost overpowering for the pallet!
Especially the chefs 7 course tasting menu....tiny portions but you are hard pressed to get through them all, just as it should be!
Wines are matched with every course, YUM

Chaya: looks fantastic!!!! and looks to have a great view

Basically for the last 8 years i have travelled a lot. Denmark, CZ, Africa, Borneo, Malaysia, North America etc etc
So i have been to every type of restaurant there is and had thousands or meals.

For the past 3-4 years the only locations I’m really interested in has to have a mix of Fine dining, Stunning views, exceptional food that makes the visit an experience
You do meet your "dressed up hogs" along the way, but that’s how it is!

On the note of Tojo's
When were you there, what year?
They moved location in 2007 and i have to say its even better now!!!
Which I’m sure you know is rare, once most restaurants become well know and start to get bigger locations its usually all down hill

And yes we absolutely should go have a few meals here....trust me i know them all, even the hidden gems
Vancouver CAN be tough as there are SO many places it is impossible for people not living here to find the right ones.

Edit: So lets get in touch sometime soon shall we

The interior of Chaya isn't super upscale, but it's a fun environment, the food is great, they play good jazz (live some nights), and yes the view is excellent, although limited.

Like you, I am fairly well traveled, mostly all over Asia (I grew up in Hawaii, and lived in Japan for 5 years), and I've visited several countries in Europe. I want to travel to more places which I haven't been to in the future (Eqypt, India/Taj Mahal, Brazil, Australia & New Zealand, and Africa).

I've traveled to Vancouver a few times a year over the past dozen years, to meet with a vendor for the mainstream firm which I operate. Generally, I have at least one meal at Tojo's during each stay (so, yes, I've eaten at both locations).

My favorite sushi restaurants in the world are in Japan. If you ever travel to Kyoto (my favorite city in Japan), you must try Izuju.

Another fun excursion for sushi lovers is to visit the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. For me, it is like a pilgrimage to the Mecca of Sushi, and I never miss it when in Tokyo.

If you've ever been to the Pike Place Market in Seattle, then hold on to your Hamachi, because Tsukiji is literally the largest fish market in the world, and it is surrounded by many great sushi bars and restaurants.

Daiwa Sushi, and Sushi Dai, near the market, are both informal but quite good.

Sex and sushi are two of my greatest pleasures in life...

Here is photo having dinner after a photo shoot with Christine Mendoza and Honey Cruz at Blowfish Sushi (the girls were totally glam at the shoot, and this is after, without make-up and wearing regular clothes to fly home in - if you work with models alot, you get used to it, lol):

Here is Christine as she looks modeling:

Finally, some of my favorite sushi related erotic pix, shot for my site...

Mimi Miyagi, "Sushi Series":

Capturing the pearl:

I sponsored a Nyomaitori sushi buffet, featuring Annie Cruz, at CyberNet Expo last year:

There are so many awesome cheap Izakaya places in Vancouver. A good review site to see which get the most recommendations is dinehere.ca

Just went here the other night - http://dinehere.ca/vancouver/guu

Seattle has some of the finest seafood restaurants in the world...

I don't think they serve sushi, but Ray's Boathouse in Seattle is one of my favorite's, both for the food and the ambiance (be sure to get a window seat next to the water for sunset).

The dishes were soooo good, that I even picked up a cookbook of the Chef's recipes.

I've been to Rays a few times over the years.

There's tons of good places in Seattle. I live about 20 minutes south. Found a couple of decent places around here for Sushi.

Of course I remember Becky.. still talk to her from time to time. Only other lady in the industry that I think is as big a baseball fan as I am.

JenniDahling popped my sushi cherry at TPF this past April. Heck.. about 5 years ago I hardly ate fish or seafood of any kind.

Got at least some of my family into sushi now, so I have people to go with me.

Best sushi I've ever had was (surprisingly) in the Salmiyah district of Kuwait, off Gulf Street (the main oceanfront road that everyone cruises with their super cars). It was a month + waiting list for the place but I lived right next to it, befriended the owner, and there was always a stool at the counter for me. 'Fresh' can't describe the sushi and sashimi that you got there and the tako was especially incredible. Big $$$ though. Same with living in that fucking country.
